"Hey, Nueng."Hearing someone call out to him from the hallway, Nueng looked up, snapping out of his thoughts. He turned around and paused in his walk to wait for his friend Ben, who was approaching him with a smile on his face and his hands behind his back.
"Hey," said the young man when he got to him. "Have you finished your classes?"
Ben confirmed it to him by nodding quickly his head.
"Yeah, I was going to the club. What about you? You were out early today. Don't you usually have an extra hour of class on Tuesdays?"
Nueng smiled briefly at him, surprised by his observational skills.
"Hm. That's right. One of my teachers was absent."
"And? You don't seem to be happy about it," Ben remarked, reaching for his face with a worried look. "You don't look so good..."
He grabbed the skin of his cheek and tugged lightly on it to force out a smile, which he eventually got, along with an amused laugh.
"I'm just surprised," Nueng admitted, raising his eyebrows. "We don't even take the same classes and you remember details like that. You have a good memory."
"It's what good students are famous for, you know," said Ben, before putting an arm around his neck.
And this move did not fail to generate some irritation on Palm's side, as he had witnessed the whole scene. He was there watching Ben and Nueng from neither too far nor too close, just enough to be able to see them without seeming to interfere in their business, all this, hidden behind a wall. Like a shadow.
The young people who passed him gave him confused looks, and most of them probably thought he was a stalker, or someone who was a little crazy. But Palm couldn't help it, he was supposed to watch over Nueng. Khun Tanya had asked Palm to be especially vigilant about the people who were trying to make their way into his life, because not all of them were always benevolent. And the young man had taken this advice seriously.
Today, even more than the previous days, his eyes were everywhere.
Even if they had better not seen what was happening right in front of him, at the moment.
