Palm and Nueng froze, allowing themselves to focus on the voice of the person who was moving closer and closer to where they were. And when Palm heard his name being called for the second time, he had no further doubts. He turned his eyes back to Nueng, wearing a concerned expression.
"It's my father..." announced Palm, and Nueng was slightly disappointed when his boyfriend decided to pull away from him and return to a more morally correct posture, though not quite to his liking.
Nueng felt as if he'd been through a similar scene before. And to tell the truth, this particular one wasn't exactly one of his best memories. So to speak.
His heart ached a little as Palm's father, Chanon, crossed the forest behind them. When he got to them, he immediately gave his son a stern look.
"I've hardly seen you all day," he said suspiciously. "You wake up late and now you're neglecting your work? What exactly are you doing?"
Palm tried to say something, but Nueng figured his father wouldn't expect him to search for words for very long, given the expression on his face. So he decided to speak up for him and claim, outspoken as ever:
"Palm doesn't neglect his work, Uncle. In fact, it's quite the opposite. He's really good at it."
"..."
Palm turned to Nueng and tried to discourage him from saying more by glancing at him worriedly, but the young man was stubborn. He would not stop. As always when he was convinced of something. In other words, most of the time.
"I'm the one who asked him to keep me company, actually," he went on. "After last time's incident, I thought I'd feel safer if someone stayed with me. You're the one who said that anything can happen if we're not careful. And having Palm with me makes me feel better."
While the son stared at Nueng with a look of fascination, the father let out a sigh, looking much less enthusiastic.
"Khun Nueng, you don't have to make excuses for him..."
"They're not excuses. I like spending time with Palm."

Fanfic(Bilingual story - Eng-Fr) Nueng hates stormy nights. Especially when Palm is not far... A little story that crossed my mind after watching the very promising beginning of GMMTV's Thai BL show Never Let Me Go, featuring one of my favorite pairings...
