=Mitch's POV=

Sure enough, when Jerome and I walked into the kitchen, Preston was covered in some type of batter, and Lachlan was doubled over laughing. "Uh, you okay there?" I asked, to neither one in particular. "N-No...
No I'm... Really not." Lachlan managed between laughs. Preston had his arms crossed over his chest, giving Lachlan a death stare. "My God, Preston. You'd think the amount of time you spend with Rob, he'd teach you a thing or two about cooking." Jerome rolled his eyes, but was holding back a laugh. "Yeah, well Robby saves the cooking skills for his dates with Emily. Preston gets no more love." He said, starting to fake cry. "He abandoned me!" He wailed, making the rest of us laugh. "My best friend left me for some stupid girlfriend!" He continued, throwing his arms up. I almost kept laughing, but I stopped myself. Preston was making it seem like a joke, but when I looked at him, I could see true sadness in his eyes.

"Okay, okay. I'm done. Can I go take a shower before I turn into a pancake monster?" He asked. "Yeah, sure buddy." Towels are in the closet, you can borrow some of my clothes or something." Jerome answered. "Thanks dood." He said, turning away. "You two better have some breakfast done when I'm back." Preston smiled and started walking off. "Lets make some food!" Jerome cheered. I was going to start helping, but something made me turn away. "Preston!" I called, running after him. He'd already made it up into Jerome's room again, and was looking through the drawers. "Preston?" I asked, leaning in the doorway. "Yeah dood?" He turned to me. "I... You might not want to answer me on this. And you don't have to. But... You... You weren't kidding out there, were you? Rob... He's distanced himself from you, since he met Emily." I said. Preston looked at me, the sadness back in his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have asked... I-" "You're right." He whispered. I didn't know what to say anymore, so instead I walked over to him and put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Preston." He shook his head. "I just miss my best friend." He said, looking like he was about to cry. "Look, what if you try to talk to him? I mean, he would have to understand, right?" I said, hoping to cheer him up. "I can't say anything! He's head over heals for that girl! He'd think I didn't like her -which I do, of course- or that I was jealous of her somehow, or-" "Preston. He's your best friend. If you miss him, he probably misses you too. Nothing can replace a best friend." I said. "You think?" He asked, looking up at me, hopeful. "I know. No matter what, I'm never letting Emma go. Now from what I've seen and heard, the friendship you and Rob share could beat mine and Emma's. If it's true, then you've got to talk to him. And I know it's true." I said. He smiled at me. "Thank you, Mitch." I shook my head. "Don't mention it." I walked out and back into the kitchen, where Jerome and Lachlan were blasting music and flipping pancakes.

Right now we're crazy youngsters, times running out who cares we're running free. They call us crazy youngsters, we don't apologize we're mad and running free

Hey we got a lot of things to do, hey we got a lot of things to prove, hey we got a lot of room to grow, hey we got a lot of miles to go

And don't blink till its over, the fun has just begun, let's finish this race while our hearts are young

I joined them in their process of screaming lyrics and tossing pancakes onto plates, and before we knew it we had an enormous stack piled up on the center of Jerome's kitchen table. "Let's eat!" Jerome yelled, throwing the pan into the sink. Lachlan and I had already started pulling pancakes from the pile. Jerome took some, and soon Preston was back, no longer covered in failed pancakes. "I like these better then the ones Lachlan threw at me." He said through a mouthful. "Me... Too." Lachlan agreed as he shoved another forkful into his mouth. Suddenly, Preston's phone rang, making me jump. He slid it out of his pocket and looked at it. "It's Rob." He said, and answered it. I smiled down at my plate, knowing Preston was sharing the same smile on the inside. "You guys mind if I head to Rob's place? He said he wanted to talk." Preston gave them a weird look. "Oh my God, Preston he's gonna break up with you!" Lachlan laughed. Preston glared at him. "Go ahead, Preston." I said, glancing over to him. "Yeah, we'll be here." Jerome added. "Cool. I'll bring your clothes back later, Jerome." Preston said, standing up. Bye doods!" He called over his shoulder as he walked to the door.

The three of us yelled bye back, and then turned to each other. "I'm the awkward third wheel now, huh?" Lachlan said, smirking. "Oh, shut up." Jerome rolled his eyes. I just casually continued my breakfast. "I should really go. Don't wanna be the cock-block here." Lachlan said. I nearly spit out my pancakes all over the table, which made Lachlan burst out laughing. "That... Was the best thing I've ever seen." He said. Jerome chuckled a bit as well. "Anyway, boys," Lachlan stood up. "Have fun. Use protection!" He said as he walked to the door. Again, I kept myself from choking on my food. "We have amazing friends, don't we?" Jerome asked. "Yeah, I'm pretty great!" Lachlan yelled, and then I heard the door shut. "My God." Jerome shook his head. "What now?" I asked. "Whatcha wanna do, biggums?" He asked. I gave him a weird look, but shrugged. I guess I had a new name. "We can play games down in the basement?" He suggested. "Okay." we both stood up, and I followed him to the basement, where we stayed for hours competing in game after game.
