Aubrey

I covered my mouth to prevent me from laughing too loudly. Justin smiled wide as he watched me try to contain myself and he sipped on his orange juice. I shook my head, letting myself swallow my French toast that I was afraid to choke on.

"Oh my gosh, my stomach hurts." I said, managing to breath and put my words together.

"I didn't think me telling you how I dressed up for Halloween as Tinker Bell instead of Peter Pan when I was little would make you laugh so hard." he said and I held back not to start dying again.

"I'm sorry, I just imagined you in a tinker bell outfit but how you look now." I said, rubbing my stomach. He shook his head, smiling.

"I haven't laughed like that in a while, I'm sorry." I said, chuckling. I ran my fingers through my hair as I looked down and popped a blueberry in my mouth.

"Why?" he asked.

"Why what?" I asked.

"Why haven't you laughed like that in a while?" he asked, being much clearer. My smile slowly faded as I bit the inside of my cheek.

"I- uh-" I was interrupted from Mason coming from the backyard. He looked at us and he looked furious. I felt my body tense up. I was scared to move but I had to.

I picked up my plate and Justin's plate that was covered in syrup from the pancakes, French toast and left over fruit. I kept my eyes down as I walked into the kitchen and placed the dishes in the sink.

I licked my lips and let out a sigh.

I forgot where I was for a second, being with Justin and just talking, laughing. Mason was outside for what felt like hours just on the phone. I had no idea who he was talking to, but I had a big feeling it was about yesterday.

I shivered, remembering the feeling of the cold gun pressed to my temple.

I shook the thought away and rubbed my arms.

The moment Justin asked me that question, on why I haven't laughed like that in such a long time, I was brought back to reality. That Justin wasn't a friend of mine that just came over for breakfast, he was a criminal.

Although, I couldn't judge from spending just an hour with him. I knew Mason for years and he is able to treat me like this with no hint of regret.

I didn't know Justin well enough to label him. Yet.

I walked back into the dining room. Justin was standing now as Mason whispered something into his ear. Justin nodded the entire time and Mason patted his back. They pulled a part and I took that to walk fully into the dining room.

"I should go now. I don't wanna over stay my welcome." Justin said, glancing at Mason and Mason gave him a simple nod.

"Bye Aubrey." he said and I felt my chest tighten from hearing him say my name.

"Goodbye Justin." I said and cleared my throat.

It was until then that I realized me and Mason will be completely alone. That hasn't been the case for the past few days and I felt my stomach churn.

Mason walked Justin to the door and I walked directly behind them.

Justin walked towards the door and I felt Mason behind me. He put his hand on my shoulder and I felt a shiver go down my back. Justin walked out but faced us to greet us goodbye again.

"I'll get back to you tonight Mason. See you around Aubrey." he said.

"Talk to you later Justin." Mason spoke up, leaning over to close the door. I stared at Justin and he did same, not taking his eyes off of me.
