"Tell me we're not going to Love, Nana again." Shelby dramatically looks at me feigning annoyance while buckling herself.
"Where else should we have lunch? Late late lunch?" I rolled my eyes playfully and brought the engine to life.
We just came out from an exhausting hour and me wanting to have my comfort food, dragged my closest friend to have lunch whilst she doesn't have any choice to refuse.
"Don't you wanna eat somewhere else? There are a lot of restaurants around the area yet you still wanna drive down there?" Still trying to convince me to eat elsewhere but that would be impossible.
"Have you heard about the scrub last night? They had her file an IR for getting the whole place unsterile coz she dropped an instrument but, guess who dropped the instrument." Diverting our conversation casually.
"Yeah, heard about that but the thing is, it was a surgeon based from what I gathered." She eased up and took off her coat while getting comfy with the short drive.
"Guess who the surgeon was." Shelby was obviously gossiping by this moment but I was so intrigued.
"No way?" I gaped at her while still focused on the road.
"Uh-huh" she nodded with one brow raised.
"That bratt. Is she tryna make someone get fired?" Carefully parking my car, I glanced side to side to make sure I won't be touching anything else.
"Louise is one of a heck of a doctor." Shelby nodded and made face with the mention of her name like a filth she's trying to get rid of.
"Surely is. Now, c'mon, I'm famished." Taking off my coat, I gathered my keys and phone excited to have lunch.
We settled on my usual spot in the couch and got comfy before giving out our orders. I was taking a breather when a new face approached holding a paper and a pen. She was wearing a white shirt and a black bistro apron.
"Hi, what can I get you?" She smiled but me being observant as I am, I noticed her smile didn't reached her eyes.
"Yeah, hi. I'll have a soda and braised beef with scallions." Shelby didn't even looked at the menu. Bet this girl is starving.
"And for you?" She asked as I blatantly glanced on her name plate then gazed back to her face.
"Hi Kim, I'll have my usual." I mentally slapped my face and cringed. "Sorry, I think you're new. I'll have Nana's classic and a slice of apple crumble. And oh, I would like it warmed." Nana's classic is a baked cod fish in garlic and butter.
"And your sides?" She asked while scribbling our order without looking at me.
"Zucchini fritters, please." I wasn't aware I was staring if it wasn't Shelby who kicked my feet under the table.
She repeated our orders and excused herself then disappeared behind the two swinging white doors.
"What's with the stare?" She raised her brow in suspicion.
I bet this girl is one nosy fella. "I think she's new." I mumbled still my sight trained to where she entered.
I knew the faces of people in here like the back of my hand so I know she's new. But her vibe is kinda different, energy's up but there this distinctive mystery behind her looks.
She's got perfectly arched brows accentuating her almond shape eyes that seemingly piercing right through everyone she looks at. And her nose, it's like I'm looking at Emma Watson's. And have I mentioned her lips? Her thin sheer lips.
"Hey!" I blinked at Shelby's fingers snapping me out of my reverie.
"What?" I immaculately reverted shrugging my shoulders.
"I know that look!" She scolded me like a guilty kid caught stealing a cookie.
"Shut up." I dismissed her with a smirk and cleared my throat. After a while, the smell of my comfort food wafted my nose making my tummy growl.
I can't help but look at the girl serving the food in front of us. Apart from the sumptuous smell of the food, I caught the smell of the perfume she's wearing. I know it too well.
"Bright crystal absolu Versace." It's like I was in a trance slipping every word thinking out loud.
"I'm sorry?" She stared at me quizzically.
"Oh, sorry. It's just...uhm... That smell. I... It's... Very familiar." I was a stuttering mess but never averting my eyes.
She nodded unamused and I guess weirded out. And there goes Iris the awkward introvert. I wanna crumble down and sink where I was sitting at on that very moment.
"Enjoy your food." She sported a pursed smile before excusing herself.
"This looks like a roller coaster in the making." Shelby made face amusingly entertained of what mess have I made myself of.
"I guess we will be eating elsewhere for some time." I lowered my head trying to dodge the piercing eyes gazing at me on the counter.
Kim's the name. I mentally noted.
