"23 stitches. What happened?" Iris asked with a straight face. The younger doctor just got out from the OR, seated across her were Shelby and Genevieve over a coffee.
Genevieve frowned coz she herself is still trapped in confusion about what led her sister to that point. "I really don't know. I just found out that she bought a new car, just before I drove to her place."
While Genevieve was under Iris's scrutiny, Shelby was gradually becoming uncomfortable on her seat and she knows it would only take a mere second before Iris would notice her. Desperate to hide her face, she took a sip on her coffee only to accidentally spit it out when Iris darted her sharp gaze on her.
"Kanina ko lang din nalaman na that's her car when I pushed my luck to knoc—" Shelby wanted to slap herself when those words escaped her lips without realizing she was basically ratting herself out. The older doctor bit her lips for getting caught. By this time, Iris had her eyes squinted at her and she knows the kind of look the younger woman was giving her.
Shelby sighed in resignation, there's no sense in denying anymore. "Fine. But hear me out, you have to promise first!" Shelby hissed.
"Shelby," Iris spoke on a low and warning voice.
"Eto na!" Shelby was like a deer caught on a head lights. "She came to me a week after that night. She begged me and asked for a favor. Your sister is one stubborn woman." Shelby sighed to Genevieve who was shaking her head with a smirk.
"All those food I was bringing in? It was all from Kim." Shelby finally told Iris.
"You think I didn't know?" Iris countered leaving the two stunned, wide eyed and confused. "But I don't get it. You were so against Kim then out of nowhere, you were now helping her out? Why? What made you change your mind?"
At that point, Iris couldn't find a way to figure out what happened leading them to where they are now. It has all become a mystery for her and she desperately needs some enlightenment.
"But why didn't you said something?" Shelby croaked.
"I may not be in speaking terms with her but I didn't wanna shun her out completely. I am well aware that she won't bother sending lengthy messages because that isn't her." Iris confided tiptoeing on the remnants of their mess.
Shelby looked at the two woman and weighed it in upon herself that it was not her place to say. "As much as I would like to tell you, I think it would be best to hear it from Kim. Let's just say I gave a shot to your virtue." Shelby answered vaguely.
"And that is?" Iris retorted impatiently, brows furrowed.
"Sometimes, you need to give a chance to see the good in them." Just when Shelby drawled out those words, the younger doctor's eyes evidently softened revealing the sweet old Iris everyone knew.
"I still don't get it. That black car. It seems to be following me for weeks." Iris raked her hand frustratingly on her hair.
"She told me she just want to see you from a far but I didn't know she bought a new car just to do so." Shelby continued. "She promised me that she won't make any advances to go near you."
"I know things between you two didn't end up well but, both of you won't stop hurting until you decide to sit and talk about it and I think it's about time." It's Genevieve who spoke and for Iris, she's starting to come around to the idea of sorting things out.
It's her own virtue that she has been running away from. Maybe it really is the right time to settle things once and for all.
Silence hung over them as they watch the young doctor contemplate on what she should do. Her reluctance was etched all over her face, the surge of pain and betrayal suddenly came rushing in clouding her mind.
