KIM'S POV
I've been seeing Iris a lot more frequently in the store for the past weeks after we went out for a lunch. She would usually drop by for a late lunch and late dinner every single day. I'm still getting the hang of it of how one person keeps on coming back for the same food every single day. And there she goes, sitting on her usual spot, holding a book and seemed to be so engrossed of what she's reading.
"Hey, what are you getting for tonight?" She lifted her gaze and met mine with her brow still furrowed.
"Oh," the crease between her brows disappeared in split second she met my eyes. "You tell me." She smiled and closed her book with the bookmark sticking out.
"Tell you what," I checked my watch to see how much time do I got before I get off. "Let's go eat somewhere, I'm off at 8."
I saw a glimmer in her eyes when she realized I am inviting her out for dinner.
"Well, that sounds great." I knew so well how she's trying to play it cool but failing miserably.
"Cool. Wait for me infront. I'll be out in fifteen." Then I walked back right into the kitchen to work on my endorsement for tonight's shift.
I was changing my clothes in no time and walked out the store. It was indeed another tiring day but I'm not one to complain.
"Hey," I saw her standing beside the lamppost with a book in her hand.
"You're here." She folded the book and focused on me.
"In the flesh." I looked around and it seems that her car isn't around. "You didn't bring your ride?"
"Oh, Shelby dropped me off and is supposed to pick me up later. I'm on a coding." She fidgeted haphazardly.
"Perfect. Follow me." She was wearing her navy blue scrubs and her white kicks which is perfect for brisk walking.
"Where are we headed at?" I can sense her curiosity oozing as we trudge farther from Love, Nana.
"Have you ever taken a public transport?" I looked back at her who's having a hard time matching my pace so I slowed down.
"I did but I can't remember the last time though. I think the last time was when we went to Japan for a vacation. I took the train." She was so haughty with her commute and I almost slapped my face.
Her last commute was international. This girl.
"So tell me, how are you gonna go home later?" I saw her face changed from excited to confused.
"Oh," was all she came up with.
"I'll take a cab." She finally concluded.
"We'll figure that later. C'mon, I'm starving." I held her hand and lead her to the booth to buy her a pass for the metro.
The influx of commuters is crazy and she might get lost if I let go of her hand. It's 8pm and it's the time when most employees go home. I can see the panic in her eyes, obviously this is new to her.
I felt her hand tighten her grip. The train came and I let her in first. As usual as it is, there were no vacant seats which I'm so accustomed to. I watched her when the train started to move and smiled when she wobbled and panicked looking for something to hold onto.
I caught her waist and held her to steady her footing. She instinctively held my arm whilst her body plastered next to mine. I can feel her body immensely heating up. I can feel whenever she takes a deep breath.
"Are you okay?" I whispered right into her ear and instantly saw goosebumps flood all over her skin.
"Yeah." She nodded and took a deep breath.
