Chapter 6: Iron In Your Lungs

He did it again. He was able to Stabilize Fujimi even more. Now, she was showing visible progress of improvement. It was baffling to the nurse, but she told the pack Fujimi was up for a speedy recovery at this rate.

Miyano was happy. He was happy for her despite the deep ache in his bones, the deep chill that settled under his skin. It wouldn't go away no matter how many layers of clothing he wore. His head hurt worse, and all he wanted to do was sleep.

He slept for most of the weekend break, and it was enough to get him through half the school week, but now he was on the verge of collapse.

He needed to talk to Sasaki, desperately. Since their almost-kiss, things were slightly awkward between them, but not as much as he thought it'd be. They still talked about BL, and still did pack stuff. Sasaki even told him he's ready to talk about what happened when Miyano was ready to.

I just can't find alone time with him, or somewhere quiet... He felt spacey, and that seemed to be another thing added on top. He didn't feel good physically or mentally, his words were scrambled, and he wanted to be able to actually say the right things to the alpha. He deserved it.

Alpha... His inner omega kept calling out to him, and Miyano was wrestling for control. Just wait.

"Miyano-kun?"

That voice made him raise his head, why did it feel so heavy on his shoulders? Wait, that's right... He was in the Disciplinary Committee room. It was after school, already.

"Are you alright? Maybe you should go home for the day." It was Hanzawa, and he looked concerned about him. It was the scent of pack that helped calm Miyano.

"Pack." His mind was too mush right now, and he just spoke whatever came to it.

"Hm? Do you need me to get one of them for you?"

"You're pack."

There was a beat of silence, and Miyano watched as those blue eyes widened in disbelief. "Excuse me?"

Oh great, you've done it now... Miyano tried for clarity, no matter how brief. This was important! This was a potential packmate! "Um, sorry, I meant to bring it up sooner, but you're pack. The scent." The omega waved his hand around as if the pheromones would be visible for the alpha to see.

They were not. "Ah, I see... I wasn't expecting this..." Hanzawa seemed thoughtful, and Miyano fidgeted. "Do you mind if I think about it?"

"Huh? Oh, yes! That's perfectly fine, please think it over." Miyano was flustered now, and Hanzawa smiled and nodded at him.

"You really should go home, though. I don't like those bags under your eyes." His senpai told him, and Miyano relented.

"Yeah, yeah, okay..."

Miyano held tightly to the strap of his bag as he walked down the hall. It was getting worse. And now, his inner omega felt a sting of rejection that wanted to cripple all of his emotions. No, no... Hanzawa wants to think it over, he isn't rejecting pack!

No matter how hard he tried to encourage himself and his inner omega, the fight was lost as his vision swam. His body felt hot with shame, like he was a failure as head omega. His knees buckled, and he just wanted to curl up and hide from everything.
