Chapter 33: Love Twice As Hard

Miyano Pov

He was pushed gently up to the surface. He heard the sound of a steady beeping sound, and the sound of breathing beside him. He was surrounded by warmth, and he knew he was being held in those strong arms that promised safety. He smelled their citrus scent in the air and was reminded of peonies as if he'd been dreaming them.

Miyano slowly opened his eyes, surprised by how heavy they felt, and that the simple action was harder to do than normal. He saw the white walls and ceiling, and when he looked around he saw a light green window curtain blowing in the breeze from the cool air blowing out below it. It all seemed so peaceful, and it must have been because of the gentle breathing tickling his ear.

Sasaki was still right next to him, holding him with all the tender care he possessed, and he appeared to be sleeping. Miyano moved his head slightly so he could see him better, but that one small motion instantly woke him.

Those sunset eyes blinked open and focused on him, and Miyano smiled at seeing his shock.

"Kazu...?"

Miyano cleared his throat, finding his voice after so long was hard. "Shuu..." It came out as a hoarse whisper, but it made realization and happiness light up that face he loved so much.

"You're awake!" He gasped and cradled his face, peering closely into his eyes and Miyano felt the love from him so clearly. "I missed you, I love you."

"Me... too." It was all he could manage. His body was waking up now, and he didn't feel all too good.

Sasaki instantly reached behind him to page the button for the nurse before returning to hugging him gently. "I love you so much. You came back to me." Sasaki couldn't stop smiling and rubbing him gently. He started kissing him all over his face, and the action was nice, but...

Miyano felt like something was wrong... or missing? The familiar love that would surge through him whenever Sasaki kissed him was... mute. He could dimly feel it, but it wasn't all encompassing like how he remembers.

He tried to keep his breathing under control, but the more he thought on it, and reached for those emotions that he knew were there, the more unstable he got.

"Yoshikazu?" Sasaki could feel it before the machine beeped more. His alpha pulled back to look at him in alarm and instantly tried to soothe him.

"I, I c-can't feel it!" Miyano spoke harshly, aggravating his throat, and causing his mate more alarm.

"It's okay, baby. We'll figure it out, just take deep breaths for me." Sasaki smoothed his hair and held his face again. Miyano tried to follow the way he was breathing, but then the door opened and a nurse came in.

She gasped. "Oh my!" She pressed something on her side and rushed to the bed. "Easy now, everything's going to seem frightening at first." She was checking Miyano over and adjusting what he assumed were all the things he was hooked up to. As he breathed, he looked down at himself. He was covered by a white sheet, but he saw all the wires poking out from underneath the linen.
