Chapter 25: The Time Spent Here

Miyano Pov

It was a good news day. It was already almost the end of August when Miyano received a call from Makimura. The PPA were able to get Tashiro's father convicted and sent behind bars for decades. And if he did get out by the end of that sentence, then Tashiro already had a restraining order against him.

"So... so he's really gone for good?" Tashiro murmured as he sat with the Miyanos in the living room. The beta seemed dazed when he heard the news, and Yoshikazu didn't know how well he could process it yet.

"Yep. He isn't going to hurt you again. I promised." He told him, hugging him close.

Tashiro gave a watery smile and pressed his face into his shoulder. The head omega rocked them soothingly, and his parents rubbed Tashiro's back and patted his head.

"My—My grandparents! Am I suppose to go back there?" His packmate looked worried as he looked at them.

His mother tilted her head, her calming aura enveloping them. "Do you want to go back to live with them, sweetie?"

"I, I don't know? Would it be selfish if I stayed here?"

His dad kneeled down so he could be eye-level with him. "It isn't selfish that you want to feel happy and safe. If we can do that for you, then we would love for you to live with us for however long you want to. It's your choice, Shiro-kun."

Tashiro's lip wobbled, and then tears ran down his face. "I-I want to stay here with you guys!"

The Miyanos all swarmed him with hugs, and they stayed there until Tashiro finished crying it all out.

"You're the family that I always pictured having when I was little..." He hiccuped, and Yoshikazu smiled and rubbed his arm. "I love my grandparents, I do, but I always felt like a burden to them. They should enjoy their retirement without having to raise and look after a kid."

His mom rubbed her face into his hair, making him relax a little. "Oh, sweetie. You're never a burden to anyone. I'm sure your grandparents love you a lot. We can go with you to talk to them, and you can still see them whenever you want!"

"Th-Thanks..." Tashiro finished sniffling, and once his mom stood up, his dad brought a hand down to ruffle his dual-toned hair.

"We'll always be here for you, Shiro-kun."

Tashiro's light green eyes widened as he stared at his dad's smiling face. He started grinning, and then he reached out to hug him. "Is this okay?" His smaller voice made Yoshikazu protective, and his dad must have felt the same way because he quickly pulled him into a strong embrace.

"Of course it is. Any time you need a hug, I'm here."

Yoshikazu smiled at the way Tashiro's guard was dropping around them. He was allowing himself to be loved by a family, and to love them back. He knew those wounds of his would leave scars, but he hoped his family and pack would show him how those scars didn't have to be all there was. He could be more than his father, he already was.

Once Tashiro gave it a go, the pack celebrated with him. Miyano expected the beta to choose karaoke, but instead he wanted to have another picnic in the same spot at the park.
