Chapter 20: Past Pieces

Sasaki Pov

The wait wasn't long for him to see the Alpha Specialist. Apparently the good word from Dr. Minamoto helped in bumping him up the list.

After running all the necessary tests and lab work, Sasaki just had to wait for the doctor to come in with the results. He stared at his phone where Miyano had been trying out taking selfies. He laughed to himself at the odd angles, but it was all so cute. Every single picture, so long as his mate was somewhere in it.

It's probably harder to take pictures with a flip-phone... Now Sasaki wondered if he could save up to get his boyfriend an upgraded phone by graduation.

The door opened, and Sasaki quickly put his phone away as a woman even taller than him entered. Her features were sharp and screamed alpha. Sasaki hadn't seen very many girl alphas. She had to be as old as Dr. Minamoto, her partner, from what Miyano told him.

"Sasaki-san, good morning. I'm Dr. Minamoto, normally, but as that may confuse you with your pack's regular doctor, you may call me Dr. Rika. How are you doing?" She sat across from him and started typing away on her laptop.

"I'm doing good." He felt better than good actually.

She raised a dark brow. "Your tests, and claim on you and your mate, would suggest you're literally and figuratively 'high on life.'"

He sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, I am."

She grinned, and the atmosphere grew lighter. "Alright. Well, you're as healthy as can be. Everything has balanced out after you claimed your mate. Your rut is approaching, but first ruts are the hardest to track. For alphas, they can happen naturally or something can trigger them early."

"My mate and sister explained to me what they knew about them, but they're omegas. It was hard to research about it without... getting wild results."

The doctor chuckled. "Unfortunately, the internet has gotten clogged with the more, ah, eccentric views on ruts." She waved her hand casually. "My mate and I are asexual, and we find it hilarious how time has quickly changed the online world."

Sasaki felt himself relax in the older woman's presence. She was definitely better than the other doctors he went to when he was younger.

"Don't worry, Sasaki-san. I'm here to help teach you all about alpha nature. Now, you are a unique pure alpha. Your level of control is superb compared to the vast majority of your typing."

That was questionable to him. All he could remember was the time he pushed his sister too hard, injuring and scarring her in the process. "I... I feel like that control only happened recently, when I found my mate. He makes me want to be better, I never want to hurt him with my strength. I've hurt my sister in the past, accidentally."

She gave him a look of understanding. "Truthfully, there is no pure alpha who hasn't hurt someone with their strength. The difference between you and them is that you try to control your strength so as not to hurt anyone. The vast majority of pure alphas have it rooted in them to take because they can. They are the strongest through genetics, which stems as far back as we know. From what I can tell here," she pointed at his results. "You have amazing levels of control, even to the point of prolonging your rut. You're able to fight against your basic instincts, which is very hard for a pure typing to do. "
