After talking with Caspian, Mara walked around the fortress to take in the layout. She wanted to make see that if there was a chance a battle would happen, it wouldn't be their downfall. The young lioness heard running footsteps towards her and turned around to see Susan with a frantic look on her face. Mara looked at her concerned and said, "Susan? What's wrong?" Susan replied, "You've got come with me, Mara. Now!" Mara didn't question her friend and raced after her, dodging soldiers as they passed her. The lioness followed Susan into another room where she ran into chaos. She found Trumpkin holding a sword against a dwarf; Caspian on the ground breathing heavily, then she found the root for all of the chaos: The White Witch. She was trapped in a ice block with Peter in front of her, about to fall for her trap. Mara's eyes widened in fear and shouted, racing over to Peter, "Peter, don't!!" Her shout had broken the spell of the White Witch on Peter, shaking him from his daze. Just as the lioness jumped on top of Peter to protect him, a sword was pushed through the White Witch, causing the ice to break with her along with it.

Once the ice fell, Edmund was stood behind it with his sword raised. Mara rolled herself off of Peter, allowing him to sit up to glare at her and Edmund. Edmund turned to his eldest brother and said, rolling his eyes, "I know, you had it sorted." Edmund walked over to Caspian and helped him up. Mara turned to Peter and said, "What happened?" Peter turned to her and replied, with a scowl as he turned to Caspian, "I don't know. I walked in to find Caspian with the dwarf and two other creatures and took them down before they could hurt him. Then that idiot decided to try to bring the witch back and I jumped in to stop him......." Mara rolled her eyes and said, "Then you got under her spell?" Peter replied, "It's not like I asked her to put me under it, Mara." Mara said, "Maybe if you had given Caspian a chance like I said in the beginning, this wouldn't have happened, just like the battle at Miraz's castle." Unknown to the couple; Edmund, Susan, Trumpkin, Caspian, and now Lucy, who had walked into the room, were all watching the argument unfold. Peter glared at his lioness girlfriend and replied, "Oh, so you're saying that was my fault?" Mara narrowed her eyes with her ears pointed back and said, "I'm saying that if we had listened to Caspian and taken extra precautions and waited for the right time, maybe we would've gotten the victory we needed." Peter replied, "In other words, my fault? If your parents were here, we wouldn't have to worry about all of this." Mara then glared at him and roared at him. After she roared in Peter's face, who leaned backwards with his eyes closed, she growled at him. She sneered, "Don't you dare pin my parents against me, Peter Pevensie!!"

In that moment, everyone didn't see Mara, the calm, collected, happy, and loving Queen. They saw Aslan and Aria all together, mostly Aslan when he roared. Just then, Peter's eyes widened then softened at the lioness who glared back at him. Mara stood from the ground and turned to leave. Peter stood up and said, his voice now soft and regretful, "Mara......." Mara replied, interrupting him, "Don't.........just don't." She walked out of the room as tears slowly fell down her furry cheeks. She couldn't believe that for the first time in being with Peter, they had argued. Lucy looked at her friend in sympathy and said, moving to go after her, "Oh, Mara.........." Susan placed her hand on her little sister's shoulder and said, "Give her some time, Lu. Come on, let's go check on the soldiers and make sure they're ready." Susan lead Lucy out of the room where she wouldn't be around the drama. Peter sighed and hung his head low, knowing he had screwed up. Just when everything was going well, he decided to be an idiot. He watched as Edmund and Trumpkin take care of the dwarf, who he then came to known as Nikabrik.

After taking care of Nikabrik, Trumpkin helped Caspian out of the room, leaving the two brothers in silence. Edmund crossed his arms at his oldest brother and turned to him with his eyebrow raised. Peter sighed and said, "Yeah, I know. I screwed up big time." Edmund replied, "Yeah, you did." Peter said, "How mad do you think she is?" Edmund shrugged his shoulder and replied, "I don't think she's mad. I think she is frustrated, upset, stressed, and most of all, worried. All of those emotions piled up on each other can cause a person to lash out unexpectedly. But, you did add the fuel to the fire." Peter nodded sadly and wrapped his arm around his other arm. He turned back to look at the entrance and said, "I should probably go talk to her." Edmund shook his head and replied, "I would wait to talk to her until she calms down. Her emotions are probably high and worked up. I'll go check on her, why don't you go check on the troops?" Peter nodded said, "I may have ruined my only chance to ask her to be my fiancé." Edmund's eyes widened and replied, "You're going to propose?" Peter nodded and said, "I've thought about it. We were, I guess and still technically are, married when we lived in Narnia during the Golden Age. You can't tell anyone, not even Mara. You can tell Susan and Lucy but no one else." Edmund smiled at his brother and replied, "Then you best hope that she still loves you after all of this." After that, Edmund left the room to go check on his future sister-in-law, leaving Peter to his thoughts.
