"How do you control it?" Scott asked the older wolf in front of him.

"The shift?" Derek asked and Scott nodded. "Follow me." As they walked scott wondered where they were going. Scott has his anchor and way to control it during the full moons, but he always wondered how Derek did it. "If you make any noise I'll rip your throat out with my teeth." Derek threatened as they neared a semi-secluded house. After climbing on top of the roof and sitting near a window all Derek did was listen.

"What is it?" Scott asked and Derek rolled his eyes.

"The heart beat. Just listen to the heart beat." Derek was calm and relaxed. It was odd for Scott to see him this way, usually he was tense and grumpy. Here he seemed happy. Scott peered into the window and spotted a woman around Derek's age sleeping peacefully in her bed.

"Who is she?"

"The one who saved me after Paige. After Paige's death I wasn't myself, the grieving and suffering swallowed me whole. Everyone talks about the calm before the storm, but they never mention the sunshine after it's over. Even though the storm leave everything soaked and destroyed the sunshine can dry up the remaining water droplets in order for people to recover from the storm. She was the sunshine. Two months later she showed up at school and I felt like I could breathe again. Like my life was easier to live. Paige's death still hurt and she will always have a spot in my heart. But that woman in there saved me and she's been my anchor ever since I found her."

"Oh, hi. Can I help you?" You asked seeing an older man standing on your front porch.

"Yes, sorry to bother you, but my guide dog has seemed to run off and I don't have my guide stick on me. I was barely able to find the nearest house. Could you possibly help me?" He asked not looking in any particular direction.

"Oh my. Absolutely I'll help you. If you'd like to sit on my porch while I look for him you're more than welcome to." You said as you helped him into a chair before rushing off into the woods near your home. After walking for a while and then hearing some rustling you figured you'd found the dog. Until a woman with abnormally long nails came out of nowhere. She quickly punched you in the face causing you to fall to the floor. "What the hell?" You groaned before she kicked your stomach cutting it along with the blow.

"Sorry to do this darling. You seem sweet, but we need the leverage." The man whom you'd left on your porch spoke joining you. Before you could say anything else the woman threw another punch causing you to black out.

Another restless night, meaning Derek would sit outside your window to listen to your heartbeat and calm himself. Unfortunately, when he had arrived at the home the door was left open and all lights were off. "Come on in Derek, I haven't got all night." Deucalion said and Derek ran into the house without a second thought.

"Where is she?" He asked seeing the blind man sitting in the darkness of your living room. One lamp softly lighting up the room.

"Tsk tsk tsk. No need to worry, she's fine. For now."

"Where. Is. She." His anger was already getting the best of him.

"If you decide to join us then I can tell you, but until then...good luck with the full moons." And suddenly like some dark magic, the light flickered and Deucalion was gone.

After days of searching it finally hit him where you would be. Derek ran to the distillery hiding behind a barrel as he saw you tied up sitting in the middle of the open building. Ennis was on watch, so Derek couldn't just run in. Thinking fast Derek grabbed a random heavy object and threw it in the opposite direction gaining the guard's attention. "If you try anything, I'll give you another black eye." He said walking off to inspect the noise. Derek quickly ran in and untied you, you were to out of it to notice who it was or at this point even care what was happening. He picked you up bridal style before running out of the area and to his loft.

Sore. That's what you were. Very, very sore. You groaned as you tried to sit up in the unknown bed. "Careful, don't sit up too fast. I don't want you passing out again." Derek said walking over with a glass of water and a brand new bottle of Advil. Yes, he went and got you Advil because he'd knew you would need it after you woke up.

"What happened?" You asked, your voice hoarse from screaming out in pain for two days.

"I'll explain later when your body has healed. Take these, it'll help with the soreness." He handed you the water and pills. You downed them in an instant, not wanting to be in pain for much longer. Truth was the Advil was a cover so he could take you pain without raising any flags. He grabbed your hand and his veins became black before fading back to their original color.

"That worked fast." You said after finishing the water. "Thank you, for saving me." You said as he sat next to you in the bed. Still holding your hand.

"It's no big deal."

"No big deal? Derek, I was being beaten to a pulp. It's a pretty big deal."

"You saved me first. I was just returning the favor." You knew about Paige (not the supernatural reasoning behind her death though) and how it took a toll on Derek's mental health. He'd always thanked you for saving him, but in your eyes you were just a friend who was helping him through a tough time. You had no idea how much you had really helped him. You leaned against his shoulder, relaxing against him. He kissed the top of your head on instinct.

You and Derek had confessed your feelings a month before the fire and when him and Laura left town. You never really broke up so it was just like everything was natural between the two of you. Nothing out of place, nothing abnormal, just two lovers holding each other after being separated for so long.
