You met peeta during the games. You were district eleven and he was district twelve. Both of you hated the idea of going out of your way to kill somebody and both agreed to stick together after they announced there could be two winners. You've always hated the games, you found them stupid and redundant. If you got picked it was like a death warning, if you survived then the trauma would haunt you so badly making you wish you died.
"You're not going to find it." Peeta said as he noticed you looking for your tracker again. It was the second night and you were determined to make it out.
"The capital lies. It's all it does. There's no way in hell they'll allow two winners. They like control and power. I'll find the tracker and then I'm getting the hell out. You can come too." You say hopeful that he'll agree.
"I can't. You shouldn't, they'll find you." He said placing his hand over yours. You sigh before nodding. You had found a tree and secured yourselves on a branch high enough not to be noticed.
"How come you and katniss didn't stick together?" You ask and confusion crosses his face. "We studied the old games and district twelve partners always seemed to stick together. I figured your coach told you to do the same."
"I don't know. She's a loner, sticks to herself. I was going to find her but she ran off and I haven't seen her since the start. You?"
"We were told not to make attachments. They make it harder to kill the opponent. I'd rather die than kill."

The next morning you searched for food, and you kept looking for the tracker. When you heard a twig snap you and peeta both turned your heads. You stood next to him and involuntary grabbed his hand. "Run on three. One...two...three!" He said and you both took off running. You could hear the footsteps behind you so you were being chased. Your suspicion was confirmed when a spear almost hit you, but hit the tree next to you.
"We need to separate!" You told him as you kept running.
"What? Why?" He asked as if you were crazy.
"It makes it easier for us to lose them. I'll find you again, I promise." I told him before letting go of his hand and running off in a different direction.

You were right. After a few minutes peeta was able to lose them and if you were together you'd both be dead. He sighed when he found a cave and finally relaxed. Unfortunately, he didn't find you the rest of the day so he decided to find you tomorrow. He was going to find you, that was a promise he told himself. The next day he left his stuff and left a marker only he would know about so he could find his spot when he came back.
He moved some bushes as he came across a mountain, the red stain on the rock caught his eye. He followed the trail before spotting a larger pool of it. He sighed when he realized what was in the blood. A tracker. He looked up as he stood and saw the words painted against the mountain rock. 'I'm sorry.'
"Dammit!" He shouted throwing the tracker against the mountain.

Katniss and peeta won. The games were over and district twelve had a winner. Peeta should've enjoyed his new life, but every where he looked he only saw you. Every so often he's hear you call his name. And everywhere he walked felt like he was missing something. The worst was when they visited district eleven. He saw you parents, you looked almost identical to your mother. "I'll be right back." He told katniss before running off to your family. "Excuse me?" He said causing your parents to turn around. "I'm-"
"Peeta. We know. Congratulations on winning by the way." Your father said.
"Thank you. I just wanted to say how sorry I am that-"
"I don't care." Your mother said coldly.
"Cheryll." Your father hissed at her, not wanting to be rude to the winner.
"What? What did you expect? Open arms, happy smiles? My daughter is dead because of those damn games!"
"It wasn't his fault." Your father tried to calm her down.
"Do you know the worse part?" Your mother continued ignoring your father. "There was no body. All the other family members got funerals and-and graves. What did we get? 'We are truly sorry for your loss, but we don't have a body to provide.'" Then she got in his face. "Take your apology and shove it."

Peeta sighed as he stared out his window. In some way it made him happy you were able to actually escape, but it also made him fear the capital may have taken you and kept you in jail. He quickly looked up when he saw something outside, a person. He had figured it was some random person until he realized the house they were stood outside of.
There you were, stood outside your parents window gazing in as tears streamed down your face. You sighed looking down before beginning to walk back into the woods.
Peeta didn't hesitate to rush out if his room and downstairs. When he came outside he saw you disappearing back into the woods. "Y/n." He said causing you to turn around. You gasped before trying to run off. "Y/n." He said again running after you.
Soon he caught up to you and pulled you back. "Peeta, let me go." You said trying to pull your arm away.
"Just wait. Let me talk to you." He urged.
"I can't. If I stay too long I'll be caught. I've built too much to lose that." You sigh before realizing he isn't going to let go. "C'mon, I know where we can talk." You pull him to your hide out that was a little further into the woods and sit down on the chairs inside.
"How did you escape?" He asks after a few moments of silence.
"Found a hole in the edge. I basically spent a day walking the perimeter until I found one."
"Why'd you right I'm sorry on the mountain?"
"Because I am, I'm sorry. I promised you that I'd find you, but I didn't. I left you and don't say I didn't because it's exactly what I did."
"You left because you had to. You would've either way and I don't blame you." You stand up and lean against the front door frame.
"I'm glad it was you who won."
"You were right though. Me and katniss only won because we both threatened suicide." He stood up and walked over next to you.
"You and Katniss, huh?" You say suggestively. "I remember the whole star crossed lovers thing from the beginning of this."
"I don't feel that way about her anymore."
"I know." He looks at you confused. "Before the games you'd look to Katniss and you'd have this glint in your eye. When you looked at her today, it was gone. Now, you're looking at me and it's there." You'd realized how close your faces had gotten. You could feel his breath on your lips. You'd only realized it for a moment before his lips crashed onto yours. You didn't hesitate to kiss back and when you pulled away you rested your forehead on his. "Peeta, we can't."
"I know, just let us have this moment." He said and wrapped his arms around you. After a few moments he started to hum and sway with you. You lightly laughed at the small moment you enjoyed before resting your head on his shoulder and swaying with him.
There's blood on the side of the mountain
There's writing all over the wall
Shadows of us are still dancin'
In every room and every hall
