Dylan rolled over in the bed as the sun peeped through the window blinds. When his eyes opened he set them on his beautiful girlfriend, who was still peacefully sleeping. He rested his hand on the side of her face as he softly smiled at her. Her eyes slowly opened and she smiled back once she saw him.
"Hi." She mumbled softly as she yawned.
"Hi." He replied before he kissed her forehead. "Sleep well?"
"I slept perfectly." She told him as she began to climb out of bed.
"Good. I'm meeting Charlie in about an hour, do you want to come with? We'll probably get some food." He offered since she hadn't left the apartment in a few days.
"No thanks. I have some work I need to finish and calls I need to make. Sorry baby." She apologized as she threw on comfy clothes.
"It's okay, another time then." She nodded in response.
Dylan got dressed and left his apartment to meet his friend. He waved to Charlie as he sat down in the booth across from him. They conversed as the time went on. "I wanted to bring my girlfriend, but she was busy with work.""Your girlfriend?" Charlie asked, his face contorting into a soft solemn look.
"Yeah. She hasn't left the house in a few days, I'm getting worried." He said as he took a sip of water.
"I'm...I'm sure she'll be fine." Charlie said refraining from the truth.
The rest of the time went by fast and the two payed before going their separate ways. Dylan called his girlfriend since he planned to stop by the store, but he got her voicemail so he just hung up. If she needed something she'd text him. He ran into the store and grabbed everything he needed before checking out.
As he was leaving he swore he saw the back of her head. He quickly paid before running off after her. Luckily he didn't have that many items so I was easier. "Baby?" He called out, but the woman kept walking. Soon he found himself in a park and the woman was gone, it was as if she disappeared into thin air. He sighed as he sat down on a bench, catching his breath.
He pulled out his phone to call her again, but it was still just her voicemail. He hung up again. As he looked up from the phone he saw the tombstone in front of him causing him to realize he wasn't in a park but a graveyard. A cemetery. He read the name engraved in the stone and did a double take when he read his girlfriend's name. He rubbed his eyes and looked again, the name changed. He sighed in relief as he picked up the groceries.
Once he had made it home he called out for her, no response. He began to look around the apartment to make sure she wasn't on a call or asleep...he couldn't find her. He thought maybe now she had gone out to get some air on her own.
He was packing the groceries away and decided to call her one more time. Only this time he heard the other end...he heard her phone ringing. He followed the sound into the other room and saw her phone sitting next to one of the pictures of her and a vase. He sighed as he picked up the phone and hung up his own. "She probably forgot it."
An hour later he saw her come in the front door. She looked blurry? Or parts of her did. Maybe he was more tired than he thought. Nonetheless he smiled as he rested his hands on her waist. He stood there smiling down at her as he lightly swayed with her in the living room. "Do you think we're together in every universe?" He asked softly.
"We aren't together in this one, my dear." She responded as she became more blurry.
"What?" He asked as tears formed in his eyes. 'Maybe that's why she's so blurry.' He thought to himself.
"You have to let me go..." she said as she faded into a blur of nothing and Dylan realized he was holding his hands out to nothing. He wasn't even in the living room. He was stood in front of an urn in his room. A small urn that read, 'Charolette Owen's. The world's most beautiful woman.'
Dylan collapsed in the floor as his back rested on the end of his bed. He pulled his knees to his chest as he cried into his arms. She wasn't there. Not this morning. Not when he called. Not two minutes ago. She hasn't been there in months. Only the part of her that dylan couldn't let go of. The ghost of her dances around dylan and he can't let go. He can't grasp that she's not there.
