Sethan:
The floorboard creaked below my weight and I'm being careful. I've got no other choice but to chance it and continue on. I bit my lip to keep from groaning. It figures that the basement door is open and there's a soft light radiating out, indicating that someone was downstairs.
My first thought was, don't go into the basement but I pushed it aside feeling a lot like that dumb virgin blond in the horror movie.
Except I was neither.
I sniffed and confirmed Kaitlin's scent was near the door and was more than a few minutes old. This either meant she was still downstairs or she'd left the light on. Why am I still hesitating?
The answer was obvious. Somewhere in the back of my mind I had a minuscule bit of hope our bond wasn't fake, she wasn't an evil witch and that hope was about to be crushed. Kaitlin was brewing a spell down there, no doubt about it. The owners could redecorate the house all they wanted but they couldn't fool my nose. There's no telling how many people died in this house.
My excuse to kill or exile her was here and I was hesitating.
My wolf whined and I was about to tell it to shut up.
A loud crashing sound resounded from below, similar to heavy weight crashing against wood. I ran down the stairs and-
I caught sight of a lot of white and grey flecks in irritated blue eyes that immediately made me halt and- Is that drywall dust lining her hair?
My lips parted when I saw the steel she was holding.
An axe.
She'd been using an axe to knock down a wall-
"What are you-" she gasped and coughed on the dust. My eyes swept the space around her. "How did you even know I was here?" she questioned, a bit hoarse but clearing up quick.
"I heard you scream." my voice was low as my wolf drew up in a ball. He didn't want to face reality.
Snap out of it, I hissed at him.
"Don't you live like an hour away from here?" Kaitlin said bewildered.
I can't let her know the extent of our pack bonds. If she wasn't aware she let out a call for help then so be it. Mate or not, there was way too many dead corpses wrapped in plastic lying around her and quite a few still in the wall.
Was she moving them?
It's a misunderstanding. Our mate isn't this kind of person. She found them. She just bought the house. That's it- my wolf went on and I blocked him out. When people showed you who they truly are, you needed to believe them. I'd already known but, hey, reminders were good.
"This definitely classifies as stalking. I'm reporting you." she grumbled but my eyes were stuck on the bodies. I needed to breathe but I didn't want to smell what I'm seeing more than I already was. Now I was the one who needed to snap out it.
I forced my eyes up and finally acknowledged her head on, "You're reporting me?"
"So you can't see them?" she asked slowly.
"Oh yes I can see them." Whatever spell you think you did, is not working, "Is this why you have Javier help out at the shop? You already have your hands full." I said trying to feel out whether or not Javier was in on this.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" she blurted and quickly her eyes widened, "Wait- no. It's not-"
"What it looks?" I cut her off, "Save your breath." I growled as I stepped forward, "You might've tricked my father and Jared but you're not fooling me."
