Sethan:
We lost Daryl.
He'd been killed by the witch that had stabbed my father. Aiden had called to inform us that he was returning with Gabriel who'd broken him free. He hadn't mentioned Daryl at the time because somethings didn't need to be said. He knew we'd all felt him die through our bonds.
Pam, his wife, had felt him die too.
My father hadn't made it alive during the short flight back. According to Aiden, Gabriel been in and out consciousness as Aiden focused on piloting him back on the helicopter. I told Aiden to get some rest. Like my father, Aiden had also been subjected to being pumped with silver. He said it was because my father took some of the silver out prior to dying that allowed Aiden to be able to pilot. It turned out that the silver and whatever spell the witches had cooked up, had been the reason why we hadn't been able to feel either Aiden or Daryl's pain. My father had succeed infiltrating the coven's base where they held most of the Emerald pack, Aiden and Daryl hostage. My father, Aiden and a few other Emerald pack members were almost making it out when the he'd gotten stabbed. Aiden said that my father had sacrificed himself to allow them to get out. Aiden had laid low for a bit and backtracked for my father.
I now stared at Kaitlin in dismay.
The barrier fell as she did but it hadn't been from anything I'd done.
Kaitlin had frozen over, bit by bit. Frost had grown out from her mouth and outwards as she laid. It stopped once it covered all of her body. I fell to my knees speechless for I don't know how long. I could feel my wolves pacing outside my father's bedroom door along with the rest of the house. They were agitated that I ordered them to stay back. They would've been inside next to me long ago if they could.
I reached for Kaitlin. Reaching for that one strand of hair that laid over her face. The very same one that was frozen like the rest of her, the one I was unable to move back. Looking at her like this, skin frosted, eyes clenched and full lips parted, made my heart hurt. She seemed to be in such a mixture of pain and anguish that it petrified my wolf who remained unmoving as I hovered.
All I wanted was those bitches dead and now...
I listened, praying for a heartbeat.
I couldn't for the life of me make out one.
I don't know how long I sat for, my hand over her frozen one.
I heard a drop of something liquid.
I leaned closer.
The frost was melting.
"Kaitlin." I whispered hopefully and brought her up to my chest. I was warm blooded, more than most and the cold didn't bother me as much.
Kaitlin's chest heaved and the remanent frozen pieces broke off her. Her eyes were a stark white when they opened.
She pushed off me and up, "What the fuck!" she panted and spun around the room as if trying to grasp where she was.
"Kate?" I called still on the floor but she didn't seem to hear me. Her hands pulled through her hair, now mildly soaked and still with a few flakes. She glanced at her hands and turned, finally seeing me as well.
"Fuck." she gasped once more. It seemed final and it brought me to my senses. I stood and took her in my arms. She felt as tiny as she had in my arms on the floor. As she stiffened in my arms, I checked her body over to confirm she wasn't going to freeze over again.
Nothing.
Not a fleck. Everything had melted.
"What are you doing?" she asked. My eyes flickered back to her face. I caught sight of her lip trembling before meeting hard turquoise blue eyes that shifted back to it's medium blue. She tried to take a large step back but I held her tight by her waist.
