I didn't care for names so Kaitlin decided I was Jacob Black and she was Hermione Granger. Unfortunately, thanks to Maya, I knew both of those names. The latter I didn't blame her for.

Kaitlin seemed carefree and almost cheery since we sat down and I was enjoying watching her. Tonight was the most I've seen her smile.

I watched as she pressed start and spun her chair around. Bright blue eyes found mine and my wolf rose at the attention. For a moment, she blatantly looked me over. The innocence and boldness behind her smile had me ready to carry her home.

I was used to woman smiling at me. Her gaze shouldn't affect me this way yet it did. I ignored the itch at the tip of fingers that longed to feel her skin. I felt more nervous than I did with her in her bedroom.

Sex was easy.

How she could look at me like this was a mystery. I was a walking red flag and although Kate knew about my shortcomings, she chose to be here. My human side was struggling comprehend that.

I found myself fighting to hold onto my grin.

I couldn't mess up tonight.

Kaitlin's voice snapped me out of my thoughts, "So what's your handicap?"

I almost let out a lame what?

I quirked a brow instead and watched her tap her chin in consideration. Her heat had subsided but she held onto a half-smile. I continued to process her words and quizzed, "My handicap?"

"You can only use your left hand." she decided.

I somehow managed to keep a straight face. The shock of being on a first date after seventeen years hadn't fully worn off. "Are you sure that's what you want?" I asked.

"I like bowling but I'm new to it. Annie always won." Kate muttered and glanced at the bowling pins which had finished lowering for us.

My brain wasn't computing, "Annie?"

She nodded, "My old roommate."

I got bitter at the mention of roommates, "So you haven't only lived with males all your life?" I said expecting to get elbowed. Kaitlin zipped her lips with imaginary zipper leaving me confused. As far as I was concerned, Annie wasn't a unisex name.

She saw my slightly concerned expression, "Relax, it was a big house. A really, really big house."

Ah, multiple roommates. I tilted my head at her, "We call those mansions."

Kate grimaced, unamused and as if this somehow justified me having a handicap, she confirmed, "Left hand only."

Should I tell her?

I figured I'd ask first, "Hold on, why do I need a handicap again?"

She glanced over her shoulder, "The guy up at the front seemed to really know you." Yes, because my father often booked the bowling alley for the pack. I took my time glancing over at the bar where he'd moved to and was currently fussing about lemon and limes. I feigned innocent and shrugged. Kaitlin wasn't buying it, "What did he whisper to you?"

"He said you're prettier."

"Prettier?" she hesitated, "Then who?"

I felt my cheeks heat up and I turned my attention to the pins to keep from squirming. I had to buy the extra two seconds to figure out how to dodge this one. The best I could come up with was, "There's a running joke about who the prettiest member in the pack is."
