Kaitlin:

One second Roman was standing in front of me, centimetres away from kissing me while I stood deranged out my mind actually considering it. The next thing I knew, Roman was gone. I was blinking and a very familiar beast was snarling in my face.

His breath was hot and came out in small pants that came to an abrupt stop as he leaned over me and focused on me. His hands were clenching the bike on either side of me. I recognized those gold eyes and froze when I should've blasted him away. He could've been about to attack me too yet I remained glued where I was under his gaze. I noticed that aside from his eyes and his teeth, Sethan's face was otherwise human.

"Sethan?" I managed once I heard Roman hiss and moan about being thrown into his house. I couldn't look yet but from the sound of falling rocks, I was willing to bet there was a gapping hole in his wall. Sethan let out another snarl and that one I was certain was directed at me. What the heck did I do? "Why are you here?" His hand which had transformed somewhere between a human hand and claw, found my throat.

"My daughter." he rumbled and I barely made out the words.

"Full sentences please." I asked, ignoring his grip on my throat. I wasn't dealing with the Sethan that threw my cookie out of sight because he thought they were poisonous, or the Sethan that brought me popcorn and cocoa as a half-assed apology or thank you because he couldn't use his words. Whatever happened with his daughter, had allowed his beast to take over him.

"Leave her alone." he growled, unable to speak full coherent sentences. I didn't miss how the glow in his eyes flickered for a moment as if hesitating. He was likely faintly aware that he had no proof for whatever he was accusing me of because well, I didn't even know his daughter.

I tried telling him that, "That's easy since I don't know her," and part way relaxed. This was obviously a misunderstanding and he was guilty of being overprotective. I shouldn't engage and allow him to cool down first. Whatever issues he's had with witches, was clogging his mind. I wasn't a stranger to werewolves reacting negatively to my presence.

Sethan's grip on me tightened and I patted his hand because he was officially crushing my airway instead of part of it. I began doubting myself. Would he let me live long enough to explain? Do I risk defending myself? Right when my body went rigid and I was edging into fight mode, Sethan loosened his hold back to where he had it and didn't wait for me to recover.

"Liar," he snarled and shook his head as if to clear it as I greedily grasped for the extra air he'd allowed me. Sethan didn't wait. He reached into his pocket with his other hand and lifted a tiny glass up to my eye level, "Explain this."

My eyes opened wider, I hadn't thought it possible. "Oh."

"Oh?" he leered.

"The one who purchased that is human. I didn't know she spoke of you." I tried to swallow but couldn't. I wanted to laugh because this situation was that ridiculous. Instead, the laugh came out as a cough and he didn't seem to care as he waited. "Maya is your daughter?" Sethan didn't answer, "She described a-" I paused, "Tyrannical father." His hand squeezed for a moment, "Her words, not mine." I strained to get the words out.

Roman was beside us in a flash looking untouched. I almost thought I imagined Sethan sending him flying. I'd tease him about being caught off guard later. "Why are you letting him choke you?" Roman asked, one finger tapping his chin. I only didn't click my feet together and wish to trade places with him because I knew it wouldn't work. This really wasn't the time for him to be dramatic and pretend like he didn't know why I was restraining myself.

"If I kill him, he won't be able to listen to reason." I explained, wishing Sethan would let go already. He wasn't squeezing anymore but the mere grip he had on me had me claustrophobic.
