Sethan:
A few hours later of watching the shop, the witch was on the move. I followed her at a distance wondering where she was going. She should've been watching the shop but I guess she had called Javier over. The shop hadn't looked closed when she left. The open neon sign was still switched on.
I stayed far from her and kept a second eye on the link between us. If I slipped and she focused, there was a chance she could feel me near her.
Kaitlin had changed out of her shorts and into army beige cargo trousers. She still had on her long sleeve tight red shirt. Her black hair was up but a few strands of her hair occasionally got in her face. After about an three hours of driving, she had parked her truck and judging from the moon, lunch had long passed.
What the hell is she looking for?
Or is she meeting with someone?
I told my grumbling stomach to shut up and bristled when we neared an abandon factory. Kaitlin had disappeared into thin air. I almost growled but luckily my ears picked up the soft sounds of leaves crunching. Kaitlin was very much there along with a new lemongrass scent that lingered in the air. I just couldn't see her. The witch had gone invisible and yet again performed magic without uttering a word.
That shouldn't be possible.
Who the heck was she?
All of my doubt that I had since I first saw her, flooded in.
The greatest mystery was why the fae were backing her. The vampires being indifferent to her was also a surprise.
Maybe I shouldn't reject her. Maybe I should woo her and find out her true intentions. The witches had played many mind games on us. It would only be fair on my part and unlike them, I wasn't doing it for power. I was protecting my own, humans included.
A thought hit me when my wolf stirred. He told me there was something or someone else here. I nodded and kept focused. She might've lost a lot of the guards we'd set on her prior, but she wasn't losing me. In fact, I had an idea of why she was here. She was likely meeting with her coven that had yet revealed themselves to us or she was about to do some spell. Perhaps, she was meeting them and casting a spell together. I wondered if it was one of those naked dancing ones and shook my head from thinking too hard about it.
I took my phone out and pinged my location to Quinn and Adonis. As per usual protocol, I needed to respond every so often, or they'd set out and close in. My father was leaning towards trusting her, but he wasn't careless.
I froze mid text as the ground shook beneath me. I stared off to the distance and watched as the large boulder trembled. It started to unfold. What? No. That strong of a magic would need words. Plus, the last time Kaitlin did magic without words, she'd left behind a smell unique to her magic. One that didn't make my hairs stand and I almost missed it because of it.
I stood floored at what I saw.
The creature was huge, approximately four or maybe five floors tall and it didn't look like it was her friend. No. His large orange eyes narrowed down on her and the rocks, I'd likely call arms on another day came swinging towards her.
I lunged forward, snapping a thick twig with my feet and it would've gave out my location if only the creature hadn't made contact with the ground at the exact moment. He left a huge cater behind as my wolf cried. Had he managed to hit her?
Terror filled me and halted when the branch a few feet up threatened to break. Kaitlin appeared into thin air, hanging from it and I watched in alarm as the rock, wooden, mossy creature's eyes swung up to meet her. Hot air fumed from his nose and he snarled as he moved to stand upright.
