Sethan:

Kaitlin tensed up again like she had when I directed her to hand me the keys to her truck. We rode together with Aiden and Jared in the back. Adonis and Quinn followed on their bikes and the rest had already gone ahead. She looked far from happy but it wasn't the time. Even if I wanted to, I doubt I could calm her down.

As much as I wanted to tell Kaitlin to stay behind and wait for us to return, she had given me a vague description about the witch's location and I needed a better one when we got there. That and even if we were moving quick, there was no telling she'd still be in a shed by the time we got there.

When we got to the jet, I had to tug her towards it like I had with the truck, "What are you doing? Hurry up."

"Just three more years." Kaitlin prayed and I paused to look at her.

"What does that mean?" I queried.

She looked me dead in the eyes, "I'm saving up to buy my own private island."

I stared blankly at her. I would've shook my head or rolled my eyes but she seemed to be waiting for some sort of a reaction. I felt at a loss. Was I supposed to pretend to take her seriously or keep my mouth shut in case she didn't like me laughing at her dreams?

I settled for dragging her towards the jet and around to the helicopter when all my wolf wanted was to take her back home. I didn't miss the way her hand went for her necklace.

"We're not taking the jet?" she asked incredulously.

I raised a brow at her, "You want to?"

I'd thought she'd be more comfortable riding only with me so I'd made a call about getting it ready. The other helicopter needed cleaning and blood would make my beast more paranoid than it already was.

Kaitlin's eyes widened and shrunk in a flash. Her footsteps picked up and I didn't have to put much effort to get her to stumble forward. She got in without another word.

We were up in the air when she spoke, "If you want to get her, you need to follow my lead."

"You said the witch was weak."

"That doesn't mean she's without power." Her eyes found mine for a moment, "And she now knows we are coming." Kaitlin took out the demon blade she stashed on her body when she thought I hadn't been paying attention. She set it on her lap, fingers resting on top of it.

She closed your eyes and unease shot through me. I recalled the seizure she had on the floor where I'd hadn't been able to reach her. Like with my father, I'd been powerless despite being right not to her at the time.

"Are you sure you want to do that here?"

She didn't open her eyes, "Nap?" She opened her eyes when I didn't answer, "You got something against naps?" she interrogated, amusement coating her voice.

I focused on flying and didn't take the bait. I sensed an obvious dog joke on the horizon. For whatever reason, she liked irking me but I needed to remain calm. A minute passed but I could feel her still staring. My skin prickled but it wasn't unpleasant.

"What?" I asked.

"I know you have authority issues and all," she smiled clearly enjoying badmouthing me. My heart skipped and she continued before I could decipher why, "But I need you to follow my lead on this." Her eyes shifted in worry and any thought that I'd wanted to pretend to dangle her off a building as a consequence for taunting me evaporated, "If you can get her down, hold her. Don't kill her until I get the demon out and secure him."

I placed my hand on her lower thigh right above her knee. My father had been right. Kaitlin was different. She was helping us at the cost of her own kind and hadn't hesitated to leave as soon as she learned that my father had passed.
