Lena found herself pressed against the backside of a large rock as Dawn pads over to her slowly, his black fur slightly matted and blood stained his nose. He watched as she pressed her face into her hands.
"Why..."
She whimpers softly as she wipes away the tears that streamed down her face. He shift back from his animagus form and kneeled in front of her, gently placing his hand on the side of her face as she looked up to him.
"Are you alright?" He asks softly. She lets out a long sorrowful cry, she couldn't hold in her pain.
"No... no I'm not. I love him Dawn..." she coughs.
Dawn pulls her in and lets her cry into his shoulder.
"I know.. I'm so sorry Lena..."
She couldn't believe that Sebastian betrayed her, he was the last person she saw doing that to her. He used her to try and get a cure for Anne which she didn't understand because he knew she would've done anything to help him if only he asked. It seemed as if everything she thought she had between them was a lie but at the very least she now knew the truth.
Sebastian wasn't on her side and those wolves.. those men... whoever they were, they were working together to get to her. Dawn and Lena sat together in the silence for a long time, processing everything that just happened. She still hoped she would wake up from this horrible nightmare but by now she knew it was no dream.
"Who do you think they are?" She asks, breaking the silence between them. Dawn was still, looking to the ground before them.
"I'm not sure, all I know is that you aren't safe..." he says, lifting his chin slightly. "You need to be careful, you don't know what they're capable of."
"I wonder what it is that they want with me..."
"I suspect they want you for your gift... your knowledge." He says, Lena thought about it and it made sense.
That's when Lena remembered the strike of ancient magic that came down while she was held hostage, she glanced over to Dawn who was now looking up at the silver moon.
'Was that him?'
She wonders, taking a deep breath as she reached out to place her hand on his arm.
"Dawn..." she whispers.
"Hmm?"
"I have to ask you something... can you promise to be honest with me?"
"Yes."
"Did you.. can you... use ancient magic?"
He was quiet for a long moment as he looked away from her and down to the ground in front of them.
"Yes." He sighs.
"I don't know much about it and I barely know how to use it... I may as well be honest, when I heard about you... I needed to come meet you."
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"I don't know, I guess I'm the type to wait for the right time to do things. I wanted to wait a bit." He says with a shrug.
"This is all quite a lot to take in." She admits.
"Yes, I know... I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you..." he says, giving her a sympathetic pat on the shoulder.
"What do you suppose you'll do about Sebastian?"
He asks cautiously, she closes her eyes and presses her forehead to her knees.
"I don't think I have a choice, he knew... everything... he betrayed me. How am I to forgive that?"
Two weeks passed since Lena found out about Sebastian's secret and she still couldn't wrap her head around it.
