As Lena dipped her face into the pensieve she found herself on the ground of an old village that was in complete chaos, everything was up in flames and smoke rolled up into the dark night sky above them.
She sat herself up to see a raven haired woman laying in a puddle of blood only a few inches away as more bodies lay lifeless amongst her but she wasn't dead yet. She slowly moved herself as if making an attempt to sit up but it didn't take long before Lena noticed Dawn rush into the center of the village, he was much younger... around eight or nine years old.
"Maman, What do I do? How do I fix you?" He asks desperately as he dropped to his knees beside her, his eyes flickered across the jagged wound on her arm.
"Please, save yourself before it's too late..." She coughs, she had a thick accent but her voice was soothing and beautiful even in her pain.
"No, no I can't. I need you maman." He begs, she weakly grabbed onto the sides of his face and pressed her forehead to his.
"Remember what I've taught you my love, my boy... you are going to be alright." She whispered. "You know who the real enemy is.... do what is right, don't turn to hatred as they are your only hope." She placed a hand on his as she looked into his eyes. "I've seen great things for your future, follow the path to the one who shares your gifts. Make it there no matter what you do darling, you are our last hope."
Lena watched as Dawn held his mother, it was clear she was dying, his tears streaming down his face and into her coarse dark hair. "Maman.... please stay..."
"I know you will make me proud little wolf."
The scene then shifted and Lena was now in the corner of a room with Ambrose and an older man. She was chilled to the bone by the sight of the dark wizard but she had to remind herself that it wasn't real, not now at least... It was only a memory.
"You are a coward Arwin!" Ambrose shouts, his face filled with rage. " You could've saved her... If you just used that book..."
"How many times must I tell you Ambrose? We are never to use the magic from this book..." Arwin says sternly as he lowers his gaze. "you must understand that this magic is unlike any other, it's a disease and it must be killed at its roots."
"You're getting our people killed over this, Theia especially didn't deserve to pay for your stupidity. If you would let us learn from that book we could have more than we could have ever imagined... our kind would not be hunted, we could live differently... how can you not see this?" Ambrose breathes, very obviously drowning in his grief.
"This book..." Arwin whispers, walking to Ambrose as he held up the black leatherback book that was painted with silver and had a pendant of a wolf holding a wand in its teeth in the middle. "is the reason we live in fear, it is a reminder of where we came from but not who we are. It is our job... your job to change the future for the Rahoule's. You my son, will lead us one day but I worry that your heart isn't in the right place, you have a son Ambrose and a bright future in front of you if work with me on this."
"A bright future?" Ambrose scoffs. "You killed my future."
"I did not kill her, I loved Theia."
Ambrose pulled out his wand, swiftly pressing it up against his fathers neck. His eyes traced the old man as he hesitated slightly but held his stance.
"How dare you say you love her, she didn't deserve this. She was good to you, healing your people after every attack from those aurors but the moment she needed your help you sat back and watched her die... YOU of all people should have been able to save her."
"To heal one person you would have killed thousands more.... you would be a fool to do that." Arwin says with a straight face, not looking intimidated by Ambrose's threat. "As a leader you must make the choice that is best for your people, if that means letting one die to save thousands more than you do just that. This magic is cursed and vile, it only serves to destroy, never create. Letting her die... it was sadly the right thing to do."
