A not so pure past

Lena looked back at herself, the mirror reflecting the tired look on her face as she brushed her fingers along the scar that ran over her left eye. She let out a sigh as she closed her eyes, gripping the desk before her. She was weak, tired and not ready for the day ahead, but she knew she had to push forward.

It was the beginning of the new term, first day back and things began to feel... real again. She's realized how much time she's wasted, how much time Sharp and Weasley where wasting. Part of her wanted to leave that morning, she would just leave her friends one final note, and this would all be over, but she couldn't. Not now.

She turned away from the mirror and grabbed her books before slipping on her cloak, which reminded her of the map Dawn gave her. She slid her hand into the pocket she last left it in and a pang of anxiety hit her right in the stomach.

It was gone.

She dropped her books on the bed and began to tear her space apart, digging through drawers and sliding her hand under the sheets of her bed but there was no luck.

"Hey." Poppy called out from the door as Lena glanced over her shoulder, standing up from checking under the bed. "Lose something?"

"Uh, no. I thought perhaps my sketchbook fell under my bed but, silly me look it's right on my bedside table." Lena says with a laugh, grabbing the book and swinging it in the air before she dropped it on top of her other books.

"Ah, great, glad you found it. Now come, let's go I don't want to be late for our first class of this term." Poppy says with a grin.

Lena followed her out of the dorm, her mind trying to retrace where she could have left that map. When they arrived at herbology, Professor Garlick greeted them with a smile and was warm and welcoming as always.

"Hello!" She sang out to the students as they walked in one by one.

Lena sat in her usual spot, just beside Sebastian at the front of the class, waiting for him to stumble in - most likely half asleep still. She pushed her books to the side of the desk, playing with the ribbon that marked the middle of her journal for her.

She looked to Dawn who walked in on his own and immediately her mind snapped back to the thought of the map which had her nervously glance around before hopping off her stool and rushing over to him.

Without a word she gripped onto his arm and pulled him off to the side of the class.

"Whoa, Lena." He says, looking down at her with a slight nod. "Everything alright?"

"No." She whispered, pulling him down to her level so she could whisper in his ear. "I've lost the map."

Dawn pulled back and drew his brows together. "It's alright, I'm sure we will be able to find it."

"No, it's gone, I swear I've checked everywhere!" She says, running her fingers nervously up her arm.

Dawn then put a hand on her shoulder and another on her chin, tipping her head up to look at him.

"Are you sure it's not stuck in one of your books or something?"

"I'm sure, I would've noticed it."

"Very well..." Dawn says letting out a sigh. "Just stay calm, we will find it... alright?"

Lena nodded but before she could say another word, she caught a glimpse of Sebastian walking over to them out of the corner of her eye. Dawn pulled back and leaned back against the wall, giving Sebastian a respectful nod.

"Keep your hands off her." He snapped immediately, giving him a stern glare before placing a hand on Lenas shoulder, turning her away with him and pulling her outside the class.
