Madelyn's POV:
After having a week off of filming to recover and relax, I was back on set. Jonas, the director, and I agreed that I would only come in for half days to start, just to ease back in.
When I arrived, I was greeted by Madison and Rudy. They hugged me at the same time and it lasted for at least 3 minutes.
"How are you, really?" Rudy asked still embracing me.
"It depends on the day, but I'm glad to be back." I said. "I have to get into costume but I'll see you later." I said while heading to my trailer with Chase.
Chase didn't leave my side for the whole day. He didn't say much but looked at me with those sparkling eyes that I fell in love with.
"I'll be back in 30, ok?" He said while stroking my hair. "I have to shoot a quick scene, promise you'll be ok?" He asked.
"Chase. I'll be fine. I'm ok on my own, I don't need a babysitter." I joked but immediately regretted. I knew he was just trying to help.
A week and a half later, I was doing full days on set again. It was stressful, but everyone supported me each step of the way.
It was a chaotic day at work and Chase and I were back home after having a cast dinner at Jonas's place. Chase seemed off so I questioned him.
"Are you mad at me or something?" I asked. We were both sat on the couch on our phones and he turned to me.
"What?" He questioned.
"You seem off. Did I do something?" I said.
"No, of course not. My stomach is a little upset." He said.
"What's wrong with it? Can I make you some tea?" I asked growing more concerned.
"It's not nausea, just achey. I think I'll try to sleep it off." He said.
Immediately after Chase said it wasn't nausea, he gagged and rushed to the toilet. I could hear him throwing up.
"Chase?" I called following in his footsteps. When I opened the bathroom door, his face was a greenish-white and there was vomit everywhere.
"Aw, baby, it's ok." I reassured him.
"I'll clean it up Mads, I'm sorry." He said out of breath.
"No, don't be silly. Go to bed, I'll bring you some water and medication in a minute, ok?" I said.
After cleaning up the bathroom, I brought some iced water and nausea relief to the bedroom where Chase was sitting on the edge of the bed. I sat the water and drugs down on the nightstand and stood over him.
"Here, lift your arms up." I said pointing to his sweatshirt which was covered in throw up. I pulled off his sweatshirt and put it in the hamper.
"Try to get some sleep. Do you need anything else?" I said stroking his cheek and lifting the covers over his torso.
He shook his head and said, "I love you Mads, thank you."
I awoke at 3:30 AM to Chase groaning. It didn't sound like his usual snores or sleep noises so I shot up. He was clutching his lower stomach, sweating, and wincing with pain.
"Hey, hey, shhh, what's wrong?" I said cupping his face with my hands and wiping his forehead sweat away.
"I-" He groaned in between words, "don't know, it hurts, it hurts so bad."
"Where?" I asked and he pointed to his lower right abdomen region. I frowned. "Sounds like your appendix. Can you stand up? We've gotta go to the ER." I said.
I helped Chase to his feet and put a jacket and shoes on for him. I did the same for myself and linked my arm in his to help him to the car.
After an agonizing ride to the hospital where Chase winced and yelped from every bump in the road, we were greeted by a nurse with a wheel chair.
"You're doing great Chase," I said encouragingly, "Take some deep breaths, ok?"
We were escorted to a small shared room and the nurse inserted an IV into Chase's arm.
"This is just some pain medication while we figure out what's wrong. Just relax for me." The nurse said.
"We're going to have you do a urine sample and an ultrasound." She continued.
"An ultrasound?" Chase said. "Isn't that for pregnant people?" He questioned with a funny look on his face.
"Sometimes, but it'll show us if anything is inflamed, especially your appendix." She said.
"It won't hurt," I said as I held Chase's hand while he was getting the ultrasound.
The ultrasound tech took a few pictures on the screen and then a doctor entered.
"Hi Mr. Stokes, I'm Dr. Woods, your appendix is extremely inflamed and there is a possibility of it rupturing. We need to get you into surgery soon to perform an appendectomy." She said.
Chase laid his head back while I stroked his forehead.
Before I could even console him, nurses were wheeling Chase out of the room for his operation.
"Miss Cline?" One of the nurses said, "We'll come get you when he's in recovery, it should only be an hour to an hour and a half." She said reassuring me.
By now, it was 6 in the morning. Our call time for filming was at 7. I knew Jonas would be awake so I called him.
After a few rings, he answered the phone.
"Madelyn? What's wrong? You never call, and it's early." He said in a concerned tone.
I sighed. "Chase has appendicitis, he's in surgery now."
"Wow, you two can never catch a break!" He joked.
"I'm sorry, first it was me in the hospital which put us behind schedule and now Chase won't be up and running for at least a few weeks, I feel bad, I'm-" I said quickly before Jonas cut me off.
"Maddie, hey, it's ok. It's not your fault. It'll be ok. Filming should be the least of your priorities right now. Be with Chase, I'll talk to you later, let me know if either of you need anything. I'm serious Maddie, anything at all, alright?" He said.
"Thank you," I said while getting choked up. I sniffled. "I'll keep you updated, can you tell everyone else? My phone is gonna die, I won't be able to call anyone."
"Of course." He could tell I was crying, "Maddie, It'll be ok, everything is going to be ok."
