I Always Will

"Baby girl, what the fuck are you doing?" Rita asked as she descended from the steps of our back porch. Darrell and I were officially moved into our home and began to make it our own even though we still had shit to unpack. Luckily, with our past experience of living together, we found it wasn't too hard for us to allow both of our stuff to coexist. In fact, it came naturally for us. The only thing different was that we now lived in a home, and no longer in a simple apartment. Part of me did miss that though, the small intimate space that an apartment came with, but we were growing and with that, the space that our home provided was everything to us.

It was 1:30 in the afternoon, and here I was, outside in my backyard, fucking with fireworks that I had found to pass the time. Lighting the wick, "meh, probably shit that I shouldn't be doing," throwing the firework a few feet away from where I stood. Giggling to myself when it finally exploded in the grass. I was left unsupervised to entertain myself since Darrell had contractors walking through the house today. The house was main hub while they solely focused on getting his studio up, Chasing Jason, up and running. Hell, he even had Grady take time out of his day to come over and help get everything set up to his liking. I knew we were desperate to get as much done before we leave.

The guys were only home for a short while before they were expected to head back on the road, being long overdue for a vacation. So, one night where we all sat around drinking, we planned one out. But before we could go anywhere though, we needed to make sure shit here at the fortress was set up. Not long after moving in, the guys began to jokingly call our home the fortress due to the tall gates that surrounded our property. Naturally Darrell and I went along with it.

Standing to my side, Rita looked around the back yard where our pool sat, "were you able to get everything packed?". I nodded in response before picking up my neglected beer and taking a pull. I looked around at the achievement that I had made when I finally had our outside seating set up around the pool area, there was still much to do, but we were making progress. "Yeah, we were able to have shit ready since yesterday. As long as we can get as much done today, we should be set for our flight tomorrow. We would like to leave here knowing that things are set for when we get back." I felt accomplished for the day. Rita snorted while I went to place my beer back down, I was about to light another firework when the sliding glass door to the house had opened. Darrell was in mid conversation with an older gentleman as they walked out from the porch.

Glancing at my friend, I looked to her confused in who this stranger that confidently walked along side Darrell was. A light bulb went off in her head, "oh yea, the phone guy is here." Rita laughed, her finger pointing in their direction. Not wanting to scare the man away, I held off on lighting the firework and instead listened in on the conversation between the two men. Bobby was following the two with his camera in hand, filming the interaction between Darrell and the guy from the phone company. Tuning into the conversation, I right away could hear Darrell fucking with the poor guy, explaining that we needed a land line from the studio to the main house. I eyed Bobby for a moment, all these years and both him and Darrell are still documenting our lives. Darrell went to high five the phone guy when Rita and I saw that the man wasn't paying attention, completely ignoring and leaving Darrell high and dry. I couldn't help but join Rita's laughter.
