Yesterday was a hectic day to say the least for the White Zombie crew, we ended up having a meeting that needed to address a few things as well remind our crew our safety protocols, meaning to try and not follow Darrell's lead when it came to fireworks. Yep, cannot believe I had to sit through that one. I also had spent my nights with Jay, I already knew who I wanted, but my job at this point required me to fulfill the duty of being a girlfriend. Sex was out of the question merely because anytime I closed my eyes, I saw Darrell, and that was just cruel towards Jay. Kissing was becoming a task. When did I no longer have a back bone?
Today though was a special day, today was Darrell's 26th birthday and everyone from White Zombie wanted to do something special for him. Including Jay, who's behavior had changed for the better now that I was giving him more of my attention. I tried to figure out what they were planning on doing but they wouldn't share with me, instead I was invited which was just too kind of them. Inviting to my own friend's birthday and all.
Because of today's events, the guys had the day off and so there was no show tonight. We were already in Denver since we had a show here tomorrow, we wanted to make time. Lenny and I sat at a nearby table outside the venue, eating our breakfast while we talked about random bullshit. Today's weather was nice and allowed a lot of us to sit outside and enjoy it, not a cloud in sight. Darrell because he was birthday boy, was kept pretty busy, everyone wanted to spend the time with him. It was that natural magnetic pull he had. Everyone wanted to be Darrell's best friend. The time was 10:30AM and the poor guy was being shoved shots from left and right for the past hour, I felt bad for him or maybe I felt bad for his liver. Sean and Jay came over to our table, smiles on both their faces, "you two want to come and play some baseball with us? It's us against Pantera." I perked up at the possibility of doing anything but my damn job.
Lenny and I quickly finished up and made our way towards the group of people who stood by two waiting vans, this must be the transportation. In the corner of my eye, I saw Rita wave me over to join their van. I wanted to join them, but I knew that I couldn't risk more shit with Jay. Rita's shoulders faltered before she climbed in, there stood Darrell who saw the whole thing, I could see he too was bummed. Jay waved to Darrell who returned the wave back, at least they were being cordial with one another. That is a nice change for once.
Today was about Darrell though and not my problems, so I climbed into the van where Jay followed close behind. The drive didn't take long till we pulled into a nearby baseball park. Once the vans had parked, everyone filed out and started rushing towards the field. I guess we all were excited to do something other than our jobs. Naturally the teams were split between both bands, White Zombie VS Pantera. I made my way over to where Sean and Rob stood when I heard Phil call out to me, "hey Sable, you with us!" seeing him wave me over to them. Not chancing a glance at Jay, I jogged over and hugged an excited Rita. That was when I heard Jay speak up, making his way over, "actually guys, I was hoping that Sable would be with us."
Phil being Phil, gave Jay a deadpan look, he wasn't really phased by Jay's wants or needs. I couldn't help but snicker to myself, just because seeing Phil's lack of facial expressions can be a bit comical at times. Phil lifted the baseball bat that sat in his head, observing it as though it was the most interesting thing ever, "well sorry slick, while I want to respect your wishes, but Sable was originally one of us. So, it's only right if she played for her home team. Once a redneck, always a redneck." The sarcasm that melted off Phil was hard not to miss, if you didn't know Phil well then it was very easy to just assume he was an asshole all the time, but you had to get to know his personality. I could see that Jay was annoyed, a pattern I was starting to see, getting annoyed when not getting his way.
