The driver dropped us off outside some lined shops where we started to walk. "So, how are you feeling now that you are back with Darrell?" Rita asked now that we were finally without the guy's lurking. Confused, I frowned and glanced towards my best friend. I wasn't actually sure in where she was going with that question. I guess I could only answer it with the truth though. "My anxiety is no longer around. Didn't realize that 15 days was going to mess me up this bad. I feel like I cannot keep my hands off him. Poor guy." Rita and I shared a laugh while we kept walking.

Remembering in how she was feeling during our flight; I figured I could ask her the same. "Now that you are with Lenny, how are you feeling?" I waited while Rita processed my question. "I feel much better. Not sure why I assumed he would feel any different, but with the space we had between us, I just felt that maybe he was questioning what we had. That he had second thoughts," she shared her fear. My heart strings tugged. "Rita, that man loves you dearly. You have nothing to fear when it comes to that man," giving her some positive feedback. I wanted her to know that she was safe to share her feelings with me, after all, she had done so much for me.

Wrapping up our window shopping, found nothing interesting to buy, we stopped in at a restaurant we agreed on and sat outside for lunch. Nothing too fancy since it was just the two of us. We place our order and started on our drinks. "Crazy to think we have known each other for 12 years," Rita pondered. Looking at my best friend, I quickly saw a sister I never had. The shit that both Rita and I had been through together had told me that we were going to be best friends for life. I thought on what she said and came to realize something. "I wouldn't be here if you had never saved my life."

Mentioning about that night with Ronnie was the first time I had in years. Thankfully we came out of that without being fucked up for life. Rita looked at me, her eyes were saying more than what she was saying out loud. "I got your back baby girl," she winked. Rita held her glass of wine up and I met hers with my own. "And I got yours."

The two of us sat and talked for a while, nothing in particular, just future plans of vacations and life back on the road. Being here with Darrell felt natural and right. Originally, we figured I could go back after a few days so I could be available, but we soon agreed that I might as well be with him till they were ready for us. Why torture us like that. Once paperwork would be filed, it would be enough time for Darrell to wrap up and come back home for Christmas where we were expected for our annual Christmas party.

I always loved seeing Darrell during Christmas because he always went all out. The man was great at getting gifts for others. In a way, he was our version of Santa Clause.

Grabbing my phone, I began to miss Darrell now that my thoughts were consumed with him. I am sure he was done with their interview by now. The call rang a few times till a female voice answered, "hello?" Taken by surprise, my body went rigid as I grew confused. Rita right away saw the change in my body language. "Who is this?" I asked which caused Rita to perk up. I was trying to remain calm because I am sure there was a reason as to why this woman had answered my husband's personal phone.

Sounding clueless, the woman spoke confidently, "this is Melissa. Who is this?" I could sense a bit of annoyance in her tone. Why would this woman become annoyed with me? Last time I had checked, this was my husband's phone that she had answered. Releasing a breath to allow some tension to melt. "This is Sabian, Darrell's wife," I pushed. The audacity of this woman. The voice on the other end went quiet for a moment before hanging up on me.

Stunned, I pulled the phone away and looked at it as though it had just burned me. Why would a random woman answer Darrell's phone and then hang up shortly after I told her who I was? Rita grew concerned, "what's wrong?" Looking at my friend, I explained what had just happened. Rita encouraged me to call him again to which I did. This time it rang three times before being sent to voicemail. This meant that my phone call was ignored.
