Lauren

It was rare I felt fatigued and I was finally going to be able to be off for a week. Didn't sound like much, but when you train every day and have TV and other shit going on, a week of nothing sounds like a dream.

Home was in Maryland with Carson. I didn't bother getting an apartment here in Florida. Carson and I signed a lease on a 2 bedroom apartment. I was back in Maryland with him every weekend when I got a chance and he could use the help with paying the rent as he was working through med school. I wasn't there full-time, but when you're in a relationship, you help and support your partner.

Packing my bags, I noticed I had a missed call from Carson. I didn't tell him that I was heading home, but I'm so excited to see him. It's been a while since we spent quality time with him. I was just about to hang up when he answered the phone.

Hello.

Hey, babe.

He gave me his signature smile.

Hey, Lo. How's things going?

I sighed. I give him pet names and once upon a time he had pet names for me, but now it's just Lauren or Lo.

Everything is going fine? How about you?

You know, just working as usual. You coming home anytime soon?

I was about to yell yes and see his reaction, but why not surprise him instead.

Another week or so and I'll be back. Our anniversary is coming up.

He quickly nodded. I've watched the women in my family be showered with gifts and endless love, not just for special occasions, but just because. That's not who Carson was. The love I wanted wasn't the love I had, but I was hoping with time he would change.

I know, Lo. Well, I'm about to go grab some food.

You can't stay on the phone a little longer?

The quicker I get food, the quicker I can get back to studying. You know my routine, babe.

Well, alright. Talk later. Maybe tonight we could do our movie date on Netflix like we...

Lauren, I'm going to be busy. Sorry. Lots of tests coming up. When you get back, I promise, we can do all of that.

Empty promises. I'd get there and he'd find another excuse.

Right.

Come on, don't do that. I don't say anything when you have to get off the phone to go train.

Everytime I "complain" about him brushing me off, he brings up me being on the road. Clearly, he's the only one that can be busy.

Carson, I never call you if I'm going to just jump off the phone.

Well, you called me.

I was returning your call.

He sighed.

I don't want to fight with you. Let's not get off the phone on bad terms.

Okay, whatever.

Lauren...

We can talk later, Carson. Go do what you need to do.

He sighed, once again.

Alright. I love you. Text me.

Mmm hmm. Love you, too.

I hung up the phone before he could and finished packing my bag. One person I always called when things weren't going right with me and Carson, my mom. She answered after a couple of rings. My mom was so beautiful and was so easily loved. Dad treated her like a Queen. I wish I was treated the same way, but now I was begging just to speak to my boyfriend.
