Andrew
Getting off the phone with Lauren, I was pissed. I got up and went downstairs to the living room. I was lost in my thoughts when I heard footsteps.
"What's up with you?" Cody asked.
I just glared at him.
"Oh boy, you're silent and silent Andrew is never a good thing. You must really be pissed off."
"Not in the mood for jokes Cody."
"I wasn't joking. I'm making an observation. What's going on? You were fine when we got here and during dinner. What's with the mood change?"
"What mood change?" Colt quizzed, entering the living room.
I noticed he had 3 beers in his hand.
"Drew is upset about something, but won't say what it is. I came in here and he was staring into space. You know, that look he gets."
I shook my head at my brothers rambling. I didn't need anyone making a bigger deal about something I could handle. Only problem, I couldn't handle it at this very moment. I felt eyes on me and glancing up, both of my brothers were staring at me. Colt took a seat next to me.
"What's up, bro?"
"Just the situation with Lauren's ex."
"What about it?"
"When I was on the phone with her, she got a text from an unknown number. I'm sure it was him. She didn't tell me what it said. I knew I should've knocked his ass out when he came into the bar. I should've followed his ass out the back entrance and kicked his teeth in."
"Yup, he's pissed," Cody mumbled.
"You're damn right I'm pissed. If a man was talking shit about Harper, would you be okay with it?"
His face instantly changed.
"No, I wouldn't. Listen, I'm not making light of the situation with Lauren's ex. I just... I've never seen you like this when it comes to a woman. I know what you're capable of doing. I don't want your temper to get the best of you."
"Then what the fuck do you suggest I do, Cody? This son of a bitch has been disrespecting Lauren and what happened before me, I know, that was then. Now, I'm not going to sit back and have anyone disrespect her. I don't give a fuck what history they have. Here I am here in Dallas and in the back of my mind..."
I took a deep breath to try and check my anger.
"We get it, Drew. Trust me, we get it," Colt said.
"What do you need us to do?" Cody asked.
I shook my head.
"Nothing for you to do. I'm here and she's there. I don't want Lauren to see the uncontrolled side of me. That's what my anger makes me feel like, completely out of my mind. Lauren doesn't know that side of me. I don't want her to know that side of me. Still, I would lose my shit if something happened to her. I've never cared about a girlfriend the way I do Lauren. I just have to be logical. As much as I want to bash that asshole's face in, I have to be in control of my emotions. I have to be able to protect Lauren without getting arrested."
"You will, baby bro. One thing about you, you always find a way. Plus, you're not getting arrested. Don't even put that in the atmosphere."
"You three are still up?"
I looked to the staircase to see our mama making her way down. Hopefully she didn't hear our conversation. When she got to the entryway of the living room, she looked among us and I saw the concern etched on her face.
