Lauren

While I loved spending time with my family in Turks and Caicos, I was exited to get back to Houston and back to Drew. We got back Friday night and I slept most of the day. Tonight is my birthday dinner. I have no idea who's showing up, where it is. I was just told to be ready by 7pm and that everything was covered.

I was just touching up my makeup when there was a knock on my bedroom door.

"Come in," I called out.

The door opened and it was my dad.

"Hey, princess."

"Hi, daddy," I said, giving him a warm smile.

"You just about ready?"

"Mmm hmm."

I  stood up from my vanity, looking in the mirror. My curls were working with me today and I loved how my makeup turned out. As for my dress, my mom did a great job picking this one out.

"I have a gift for you. Well, it's from me and your mom."

"Aw, dad, you guys didn't have to get me anything."

He waved me off.

"We know. Here you go."

He handed me the box and I opened it. The necklace was beautiful.

"My birthstone."

"You've been talking about more practical jewelry you could wear day to day so we wanted to start that collection for you."

"It's perfect, dad. Thank you."

I took it out the box and put it on.

"I know I tell you often, but damn am I proud to be your father, Lauren. You've worked your ass off these 9 months and it goes to show just how resilient you are. I told you'd bounce back and the best was yet to come. To think your journey is just starting. You got this, princess."

I looked over at him. I didn't need to start crying now.

"You're gonna make me cry and mess up my makeup."

We both laughed.

"Not that you need it, but I'll never stop telling you how proud I am."

"I'm just as proud to be your daughter."

There was another knock on the door. This time it was my mom.

"Oh, look at you. Drew won't be able to keep his hands off you," she commented.

My dad rolled his eyes and pulled her into his side.

"Just like I can't keep my hands off you," he muttered.

She blushed and they shared a kiss.

"Guys, really?"

Mom laughed.

"You like the necklace?"

"I love it. Thank you."

She smiled.

"You're welcome, bug. There's more gifts downstairs. You can open them whenever you want. If you don't get to them before you leave with Drew, your dad and brothers will just bring them up here."

I nodded.

The doorbell rang and someone yelled out they had it.

"Where is this birthday dinner again?"

They both smirked.

"You'll have to wait and see. Ready?"

I nodded and grabbed my heels, making my way down the stairs. There was Drew standing and talking to my brothers. He looked up and smiled once he saw me and let out a low whistle. He crooked his finger, motioning from me to come closer. I stood on my tippy toes to give him a kiss.
