max's pov:
i leaned against the cold train window, as i stared out it. i had been on this train for almost 3 hours, and it was almost midnight. most people were alseep because it was so late, but i was not lucky enough to be one of those people. the few people that were awake we dead silent, all looking down at a book or had headphones in. god i wish i remembered to bring my headphones. the only noises were the lights on the train buzzing, and the rain hitting against the window. the lights were dim and flickering on and off every few minutes. the guy beside me who was also dead asleep started to snore, loudly. well there goes my hope in sleeping tonight. i glanced over at him and sighed. i debated wether i should shake him away to tell him to shut up, but i really didn't have the energy to talk to anyone right now, little alone argue. the last thing i wanted was people paying attention to me, so i stared out the train window, getting lost in my thoughts.
my arms were still really swore and shaky, and my stomach was hurting. it was probably because i hadn't eaten at all today. as my stomach started to growl louder and louder, a few people that didn't have headphones in around me looked over at me. i tried my best to hide my face from the embarrassment, but then people would only pay more attention to me.
i really didn't want ANY attention drawn to me at all. after all i was running away and if my mom and neil do report me missing, then lots of people will be able to say they saw me. then i'd been in deep shit. my stomach started to growl more and the pain got worse and worse by the second. i didn't bring any food with me, so i was out of luck. the man beside me started to snore louder and louder, and i looked over at him. i was growing frustrated, so i was about to wake him up before i noticed something. his backpack was open, and inside i saw some cash. my eyes grew wide as i realized how easy it would be to just take it.
i glanced around me, and nobody was paying attention to me or looking in my direction, so i slipped my hand into his backpack, and took the cash. i grinned as i saw underneath the money was a bag of pretzels. i quickly grabbed the pretzels aswell and opened them. finally.. i was starving and i finally got to eat something. i ate a few, and then glanced back down at the cash on my lap. i set down the pretzels and picked back up the cash and counted it. "10.. 20.. 30.." i mumbled to myself. i frowned once i realized it was only 50 bucks. but at least it was money. i glanced over to the man once more to make sure he was asleep, before slipping the money into my jacket pocket.
i grabbed my backpack and stood up, switching seats. if he woke up and realized the money was gone he would immediately quetion me, then the cops would be called. i was already in trouble with police, i can't be in even more trouble..
i sat down at another window seat, this time it was thankfully not next to anyone. i leaned again the window like before and yawned. i could feel my eyes getting heavy and me slowly drifting off to sleep.~
i slowly opened my eyes and felt my heart drop. i quickly shut up and looked around feeling confused, before my heart started to beat normally again remembering where i was. i sighed a breathe of relief and glanced out the train window. the sun was already risen, so that meant it was already moring. i looked beside me and there was now a woman in her mid to late 20's sitting next to me. "hey uhm.. what time is it?" i asked the woman squinting my eyes, because the sun was in my eyes. "uhm..," she muttered looking down at her watch. "12:08 pm." she told me. "okay.." i answered looking away from her.
i stuck my hand into my pocket, and immediately felt the money i had stolen from the man that was sitting beside me before. i held back my smile as i didn't want the woman to think i was crazy. i pulled out my train ticket from my other pocket and looked at the time we were supposed to arive in the train station in california. we were supposed to arive there around 3:30pm.
i leaned against the cold window once again and watched all the trees go by. right now the train was in a forestry part, but i could still see the bright blue sky. that was a thousand times better then hawkins where it was basically always doom and gloom. as i continued to stare out the window i was getting lost in my thoughts. about my mother and neil to be specific. i wondered if they would even realize i was gone yet, and if they realized i am gone do they even care?
out of no where the feeling that i was being watched grew. i could feel my chest getting heavier. i looked over my shoulder at the woman beside me and she was staring at me. she quickly looked away from me and at the floor, but not quick enough. i pulled my hood back up, as it fell down when i fell asleep. i was trying my best to hide my face and not talk to anybody, but it's hard when it feels like all eyes are on you, and you wanna look around to see if it's just your imagination or not.
~
the sound of the train wheels scraping against the train tracks woke me up. they were becoming quieter and quieter, and i could feel the train slowing down. i glanced out the window and saw a croud of people. wow, i guess we were already at the train station. it felt like it had had barley an hour. i guess time goes by fast when you are asleep. i dont even know how i fell asleep again. i was not even that tired.
i grabbed my bag and skateboard and stood up, and walked to one of the doors leading outside. i can admit after hours of sitting if felt weird to stand and walk. the train doors slowly opened and a crowd of people entered the train, and another crowd of people exited with me. everyone went off in diffrent directions, but i just stood there.
where do i go from here..?
