As soon as Bondita left, I composed myself and pulled the papers out of my pocket to read her letter. Since it already got dark by then, I literally ran home in desperation to read what my Bondita had written for me. Kaka and baba wondered to see me in that hurried state. They must have probably thought that I would take heavy steps with a broken heart. However, I exhibited excitement and eagerness, taking them by surprise. Although they tried to find out what the matter was, I rushed to my study room without paying heed to their looks or questions.
On latching the door of my study and hinting my family to not interrupt me until I see them again, I nestled down on the couch to read the letter that said,
"Beloved Sakha babu,
My hands are literally shivering as I pen this. I have never been such a coward in my life (chuckling). Anyway, this is not cowardice but nervousness. Your Bondita who is otherwise very bold and outspoken, also becomes nervous when she is around you with feelings as heavy as love. What a cheater you are, sakha babu! I thought you only know to give me confidence, but of late I have realised that you also know to intimidate me. (I am blowing out my cheeks for this dual nature of yours.)
Besides, I have other complaints too. Today, when you held my hand tightly to push me out of our, I mean, your room, where you kept me hidden from the rest of the world, I felt happy. When kaka asked me how I could smile through the pain, I told, the fact that you had exercised your right on me after six years is what made me happy, apart from discovering your love for me through your diary. The impressions of your fingers on my skin felt more like a gift than a punishment.
But my complaint is for Arjun. Suppose, if Arjun is not Bondita but another guy, then how would he endure your anger? Your impulsiveness is acceptable to your Bondita but not to outsiders. How can you think of hurting that poor guy for merely trespassing into your secret room, when it was your fault to not lock the door? Your love for me should definitely not become a punishment to the people around you.
I know you would feel guilty for your acts later. I even know that you will hurt yourself due to that baseless anger of yours. Which is why, I sent turmeric powder with Shaswati. I hope you didn't trouble the child by denying the first aid. Did you?
Alright, now that you have known Arjun is none other than Bondita, I am holding my ears to apologize for fooling you all this while. Kaka also came to know the truth today, when I was emotionally talking to myself in my original voice while reading your diary.
Yet, I wonder, how didn't you recognise me? I thought you are capable of finding me even if I am hidden in the most secret cove of the planet. Besides, you also claim to asses my presence and mood through my footsteps and identify my voice through silence. Then how could you not feel my presence when I was around you as Arjun? I am sure your heart must have felt it, although your logical mind might have refused to do so, isn't it? Or did the chasm between us become so huge that you lost all the special powers you had in connection to Bondita? If this is to be true, then what can this poor Bondita do? Hey, Durga maa!
The reason for doing all this should be better known to you. If you remember the letter you left for me before leaving London, you said that you are not interested to see me again. Having understood your intention behind writing it, I had decided to meet you at any cost soon after coming to India. Fortunately, I got to know that you were in Madras and came to Subbu dada's office to enquire about you. To my surprise, I saw you being present there already and felt elated. But as always, my happiness left me too soon, when I spotted a pregnant woman with you. You were plucking guavas for her and she was happily catching them with the free end of her saree. Then, both of you spoke heartily with each other. At last, you even put bangles to her hands, which made me feel some intimacy between the two of you.
