Friday night dinner was awkward.
For an entire week we barely spoke, he almost canceled on me. But then I heard Beckham in the other room yelling at him about it.
So now as we sat at a restaurant that overlooked the seaport, all there was between us was a cold silence. Not a word in the car, parking lot, or elevator here.
"So...." I begin the first word spoken between us in a week. He doesn't even acknowledge it, he just stares at his menu.
"Hayes?" He looks up at me "Are we gonna talk?"
"We are going to a party tonight, a friend of mine is hosting one of his annual get-togethers. A lot of people want to meet you."
"What if I have plans?" He raised a brow at me and placed the menu flat on the table.
"Cancel them?" He looked at me sternly and I sighed. I had no plans, but it was fun to pretend I did.
"I'm going to be letting some people down?"
"Then you let them down? Life's full of disappointment Lily, I need my wife tonight, a reminder of what I pay you for" Ouch, I didn't need a reminder. I already knew the assignment and the role I played.
"Fine, but just for that you have to get me dessert!" I could almost see a small smile form but it just wasn't at that point. But as I leaned forward on the table with pleading he nodded his head.
"Yes!" I smiled in victory, I wanted a brownie sundae with whipped cream and cherries.

The place we went to was in the suburbs. We drove away from the busy streets of the city and towards more vacant and quiet towns.
"So where are we going?" I whisper.
"Why are you whispering?"
"I don't know?" I turn on the radio and smirk as Taylor comes on "Just accept it, she's the best"
He turns off the radio and focuses on the road "It's distracting, that's what it is" I frown and stare off into the trees. We weren't going toward my town, we were heading toward wealthier neighborhoods.
Then we took a turn and it was not a street, it was a driveway. It could pass as a street, but when the house came into view I was stunned "Holy shit."
"Ronald's house" I laugh out loud, then I cover it in embarrassment "What?"
"Ronald McDonald?" He shook his head not laughing.
"Ron Ingleson" he corrects me not amused.
"Jeez I was just joshing, I'm not gonna say that to his face Hayes."
