Nico felt the room go silent, pounding into his chest as if his racing heartbeat wasn't enough.

Percy felt almost dizzy, fury rising up from his fists to his face. He tried to keep it down, not wanting to scare Nico or think he was mad at him, but he went hot.

Nico kept his eyes down, opening his mouth but unable to continue. He let go of Percy's hand to wipe his face as a few more tears escaped.

Percy took a deep breath. He always reacted. Always acted. He wanted to go find this guy, whoever he was, and do much worse to him - and if he couldn't find him, he'd demand a god do it themselves for letting that happen to Nico, a literal demigod hero whom they wouldn't exist without for how many times Nico had saved the day.

Nico reached for Percy's hand again, and it broke Percy out of his thoughts.

"I know you're mad at me, but-"

"No," Percy interrupted, sternly. "I'm not mad at you. It wasn't your fault, Nico, I'm here for you. I'm mad at the gods for letting that happen to you, and the guy that chose to do it."

Nico digested the words, nodding slightly. He squeezed Percy's fingers, unsure of what to say. He'd never told anyone before, thinking he'd take this truth to his grave.

Percy pulled Nico's hand to his lipped and kissed his knuckles delicately, "I love you. Nothing will ever change that. Whatever you need, I'll help you."
