Valdangelo :: Leico :: Neo

"Maria!" Nico called. The seven-year-old came bouncing down the hall in her navy and white school uniform.

"Ready, mama?" he asked her, picking her up in his arms. She smiled and nodded.

"Lea, come on! She can't be late for the first day of school!"

~

In the back of the car, the little girl sat. She has curly brown hair, like her mommy Lea's, short. She has pale skin like Nico's, and his dark eyes. Her nose is his too, but her jawline is Lea's. She lean, not strong.

She smiles purely as she looks at the window and the outside world passing by. Lea glances back at her and smiles, as Nico drives.

They come to the school parking lot and pull into a parking spot.

"Okay, mama, have an awesome first day, okay? Do what the teacher asks." he smiles back at her and pats her hand on her knee.

"Okay, Daddy, love you!"

"Love you too, Princess."

Lea gets out the car and walks her to her class. She watches her take a seat, they wave, and then Lea is back in shotgun.

"She's growing up so fast." she says.

Nico nods, "She'll be our little girl forever."

They pull out of the driveway.

Later that day. . .

~

Nico sat at home with Lea, enjoying his day off, but at the same time, worrying about his little Maria.

"You're nervous." Lea observed, smiling and putting her finger to her chin.

"I'm not," he debates. "Just. . . Thinking cautiously."

"Whatever. It's her first day, don't stress, okay?"

"She's growing up, Lea."

"Like you said, she's still our little girl."

"She won't think so soon."

"It's first grade, Nico, that's not happening any time soon."

Nico sighs, "I guess you're right. But-"

"No buts. Watch the child you didn't get to be."

~

Nico went to pick his daughter up.

"How was your first day, Princess?" he helped her into the backseat.

"It was so much fun! We played games and I made a new friend! Her name is Ocean! She's really nice. Our teacher, Ms. Bell, is nice too." she bounced cheekily.

"I'm glad you had such a great day, Maria! Ready to go home?"

"Yeah!"

Nico smiled at his little girl in a way he doesn't smile at anyone else. Watch the child you didn't get to be. He'll do more than watch.
