Everything you see is in black and white, no color or vibrancy... except for your soulmate. When you look at your soulmate, you can see them in full color. As if, in that moment, they're the only one that exists. Kind of like those cheesy moments in musicals where all the lights dim, and your soulmate is in the center of the stage, captivating your entire focus.
It builds trust, too, only seeing them in color and no one else. Never knowing how truly beautiful you are because you don't even see yourself in full color. Just them. You need to hear them tell you, and somehow, the most amazing person in the world to you is convincing you that you're beautiful. It's a form of bonding Nico never expected for himself, being the emo loner that he is.
And now that he has it... Now that he knows who his soulmate is... He still doesn't expect it.
At first, they met at their local cafe... during midterm season. When Nico first laid eyes on Will, he was ecstatic. Finally, someone to love who would love him back. Will had gorgeous hair - people described it as a blonde, he figured, finding it a very light color. His eyes... he didn't know the colors of those either, but they were mesmerizing. His skin was a bit dark and wore fashionable clothing. Nico stared at him in awe, forgetting that the straw from his frap was still in his mouth. With his textbooks open and computer buzzing, he sat in the back of the cafe, unable to move or speak, just caught in the wonder of it all.
After a few moments, Will looked up at him, too. He was emotional, Nico noticed, his eyes welling up with happy tears. He was in line at the cafe, but walked out of it, heading straight for Nico. Before Will could stop and properly introduce himself, a young girl - Reyna, Nico's friend and class partner - slipped by and plopped down.
"We have an hour before the midterm, Nico! Hurry up and finish your notes!" she urged, pulling out her own computer hurriedly.
Nico swallowed, his throat going dry. He glanced between his computer and Will. Will is his soulmate, he'll be there to love forever, Nico thought. This midterm is a one-time deal. He looked at Will apologetically and Will understood, giggling as he showed Nico his backpack - he had the same idea.
"After," Nico mouthed, and Will nodded. They'll meet after the midterm, most definitely.
However, Nico had to stay late for his midterm, unable to finish in the initial 90 minutes given. Will wasn't upset as he waited at the cafe, figuring that's probably what it was, but he couldn't get Nico off of his mind. He wished he wasn't so caught up in the moment and asked for his number or something. By the time Nico finished and rushed to the cafe, it was closed, and Will had gone home.
With his eyebrows furrowed, Nico put his head down in frustration. He thought back to Will's backpack, it had Nico's school logo on it. He would see Will again, most definitely, but when? Where? He put his head in his hands, I'm such an idiot.
After that, Will stopped by the cafe everyday, but Nico never showed. A week later, Nico was walking into the movie theater with his friend, Reyna. As they rounded the stairs, Reyna pointed up at him, "Hey! We saw him at the cafe."
Nico's head snapped up quickly, staring at Will. It was definitely him, blonde and beautiful and all. He hesitated. He wanted to rush up and embrace him in a large hug, but he looked to Will's left at who he was talking to. It was an older woman who looked just like him. To his right was a little girl, a nearly ageless and identical version of the woman.
His family, Nico thought, setting his jaw. He couldn't walk up to him right now! Meeting his family and him at the same time would be so awkward. And he didn't want to ruin their family day together.
He sighed, letting his head hang, "Yeah, I guess so. You know him?" He was hoping to figure out at least what his name was.
Reyna shook her head, "Nah. Never seen him before."
That Friday, Nico was at a party. He didn't go to parties often, but Reyna drags him to a few every once in a while, and once there he figures he might as well have fun. On this particular Friday, Nico was extremely drunk, feeling the music and extremely horny.
He looked around drunkenly. He could barely make out anyone else. Suddenly, a blur of color collapsed on the couch next to him. He looked over. He was too drunk to tell it was Will, but he leaned in.
Will, on the other hand, was incredibly cross-faded. He didn't really recognize anyone either, but when Nico leaned in to kiss him, he figured it was a nice feeling.
The two started making out, enjoying the feeling and the looks they were getting, having no idea that they were making out with their soulmate. After taking it to the bedroom and leaving the party at different times with different friends that night, neither of them realized until they sobered up over the weekend. When Nico realized, he groaned, and when Will realized, he hit his head against the wall.
I can't believe I'm this dense, they bought thought.
After another excruitiating and embarrassing week of thinking about the party, Will was at the cafe again, and Nico was too.
Already sitting down, Will had glanced up just for a moment, his eyes landing on Nico. Nico was in line. Once Nico had ordered his drink, a hot chocolate of all things, he turned to find a seat and saw Will, alone.
A blush spread across Nico's face and he walked up to him.
"Hey," he finally got to say, holding his cup close to his chest.
Will's eyes widened and he smiled even larger, "Hey. I'm Will!"
