Nico took a deep breath, unable to shake the feeling of sorrow.
With his arms on his knees, he looks down at his shoes and the ground below them.
"I don't think... he'll ever love me," he told Reyna, his best friend.
"Why not?" she responded softly. "You never know."
Nico swallowed, thinking about how Annabeth looked at Percy.
"I can't take that away from him..." he said.
"Take what away?"
"How much love she has for him. He deserves to be loved like that."
Reyna shifted, putting a hand on Nico's shoulder.
"You don't love him like that?" she asked.
Nico bit the inside of his cheek. "I do, but..."
He thought about how Percy looked back at her. He lit up. He had so much history with Annabeth, that he'd never have with Nico. Whenever Percy saw Nico... he saw Bianca. And that's Nico's fault for reacting the way he did so many years ago, just to disappear for years after.
"But what?" Reyna prodded.
He wondered if Percy even though about Nico during the years he was gone.
"But he doesn't love me that way."
How is it that I'm losing... what I never found?
Percy's love.
