"Where've you been?"
"No where."
"The grave-OW!"
Rachel and I looked at Dick and Gar. Gar was rubbing the back of his head where Dick thumped him. Clearly whatever they've been up to was something we weren't allowed to know yet. Yet Gar is not good at keeping secrets so Dick should've seen this coming.
"Please tell me you two weren't at the grave I'm thinking you were at..." I responded, crossing my arms.
"No....?" Gar replied.
"You're a shit liar. What the hell were you two thinking?" Rachel snapped, hitting Gar in the shoulder. "We need to be laying low and staying away from the old cabin."
"We know that but I overheard Loreli and her mom talking-"
"-Dick!"
"And I had to see for myself what exactly Talia did, and you should be grateful I did cause look at this." Dick explained, reading in his pocket and pulling out a tube.
"That's just dirt in a tube." I responded, rolling my eyes.
"No it's not." Rachel replied, taking the tube from Dick. She put it closer to her eyes. "It's ash."
"Ash?" I asked, taking the tube from Rachel.
"Which means whatever Talia did, it burned right through the ground but was controlled enough to where it wouldn't burn through the coffin." Gar explained, taking the tube from me and walking over to the computer. "We just gotta figure out how she did it. Judging from the footage and when Mrs-Ada showed up last night, Charlotte, Owen, and Levin are out of the question."
I just didn't understand. What would Talia want with my mom? Did the rest of them know she was going to bring her back? The casing surely wasn't programmed to burn through anything and if it was used, it would've caused a major blackout.
I felt pretty useless just sitting back and watching Levin take over our city. Though Bruce was right, we had to be patient and learn what he's up to first. Last time we went in without a clue and we all almost died. I just hate sitting around.
I climbed on to one of the gurneys in the batcave and laid down. I was worried, very worried. I had the team to worry about, the city, Maverick, and now my mom. I know they're all going to show up here eventually and we have to be ready. From what was said earlier about the mutagen being used in tranquilizer darts, we can't face them until we have an antidote.
"Why revive Ada though? It doesn't make any sense. She's showing no signs of being poisoned or being injected with mutagen. Not to mention she literally has no wounds anywhere." Rachel explained.
"How did she revive her is the big question. Not the casing, no powers, no help except for whatever she used to burn through the ground." Dick thought aloud. He buzzed his lips. "What if we've been looking at this from the wrong angle? What if it hasn't been about restoring what Ra's lost with a bigger and better team?"
"Then what would it be about?" Gar asked.
"Playing god." Dick concluded. "They're mutating DNA of innocent people, but not just anyone at random. The police station was targeted specifically because the people inside have weapons knowledge. Charlotte and Owen were targeted because they inherited powers from a parent and Levin knew the mutagen would make them stronger." He explained.
"We've been looking at this completely wrong then." Rachel piped up. "It's never been about family legacy or rebuilding what Ra's had lost. It's been about survival of the fittest this entire time."
"Which is what was detailed in the contract I found in my dad's old bedroom. Only the strongest children survive." I said, sitting up and sitting on the edge of the gurney.
