Jason and I told Clark not to say anything as we wanted to be the ones to tell everyone. I was really scared to because I was afraid of the lectures and how bad of an idea it would be to keep the baby. I knew Bruce would give us a whole lecture on it and Dick definitely will. Most of all, I was afraid of what Maverick would think.
Maverick has always been the baby and the center of everyone's attention. A baby means that he's no longer the baby and the center of everyone's world. I was concerned about how he was going to react given this new chapter of our lives. He's already been through so much and I'd hate to cause him anymore distress. Besides, he's never been around other kids.
Gar came into the sitting area where Jason and I were sitting. He had Maverick on his shoulders, who was playing with his hair. Maverick just looked so happy and I was struggling to get the words out to even ask Gar to leave him with us so we could talk.
"Hey Gar, would you mind leaving Maverick for a sec?" Jason asked, his tone even but slightly serious.
"Sure." Gar stated, setting Maverick on the ground. "I'll be right back buddy."
"Okay uncle Gar!" Maverick called as Gar left the room.
I opened my arms and Maverick climbed on the couch before climbing into my lap. I kissed his forehead and pushed the hair away from his eyes. He really needed a hair cut.
"You know I love you, right?" I asked. Maverick nodded with a big smile. "You know uncle Jay loves you, right?" He nodded again, his smile unwavering. "And you know that you'll always be our little boy?" He nodded again, playing with my hair. "Well..uncle Jay and I have something to tell you."
Maverick tilted his head. "Are we leaving?"
"No, no not at all." Jason piped up, ruffling his hair.
"Good cause I don't want to." Maverick said, hugging me.
I hugged him back, rubbing his back. Jason reached over and rubbed his back as well.
"Uncle Jay and I...are having a baby." I whispered in Maverick's ear.
Maverick quickly pulled away and looked at me. "Where?"
"In here." I said, pointing at my stomach.
"You eated it!?" Maverick exclaimed.
Jason laughed. "No, she didn't eat it. It's growing in there, you goon."
"Oh.." Maverick said, looking at my stomach. "It's in there?"
I nodded. "Sure is."
Maverick sat between me and Jason on the couch. "You a mommy and daddy now?" He asked, looking between us.
Jason's face lit up and he gave a smile I've only seen when he and Maverick are having a private moment when they think I'm not watching.
"Yeah buddy." Jason replied, kissing the top of his head.
Maverick's eyebrows furrowed a little bit. "Then...then can I say..you're my mommy and daddy?"
I looked at Jason, my eyes welled with tears. Jason pulled Maverick to his chest, craddling him. I could see Jason was trying not to cry.
"Absolutely." I whispered, joining the hug.
Bruce came into the room and I pulled away from Maverick. Maverick spotted Bruce and crawled off the couch, running over to him all excited.
"Guess what!? Guess what!?" Maverick yelled, grabbing Bruce's pants.
"What?" Bruce asked, looking down at him.
