I could hear the fighting and yelling downstairs. Maverick was frozen in fear under the bed, staring at me. I didn't know what to do except reach my hand out and have him grab it. He had an iron grip on it. It just made me all the more sad.

It made sense now why Levin spared him, Maverick was actually his grandson. Which means he's most likely trying to kidnap him and reunite the family. Over my dead body was I ever going to let that happen. Maverick was my whole world, mine to protect and care for, not Levin's.

I could hear footsteps running up the stairs and things smashing. I heard Krypto run out of the room and start attacking. I could hear Jason start barricading the door, but he was too late. I heard the door smash open and yelling.

"Where's the boy!" A voice exclaimed.

"He has a name, asshole!" Jason yelled back. I heard a punch being thrown.

I looked over at Maverick, his eyes tightly closed. He had tears coming out of his eyes. The poor little guy, he was petrified.

"Auntie Eli, I'm scared." Maverick whispered, his hands gripping mine.

I felt tears brimming my eyes. "I know, me too. It'll be okay."

"Give us the boy!" A voice yelled.

"Over my fucking dead body!" Jason yelled back. I heard gunshots.

Maverick jumped and let go of my hand, covering his ears. I had to make sure Jason wasn't hurt but I couldn't leave Maverick unguarded. I was in no condition to fight but I can't risk losing either one of them. I stood up and shook my head. I had to get my head in the game, for Maverick.

"Hey assholes!" I yelled, walking around the other side of the bed.

"Get her!" One of the henchmen yelled.

I lifted my hand up and shot ice at them. It hurt a little bit but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Even if it was, I had to fight through the pain. I had a little boy to protect.

I kept shooking icicles at them, watching as they kept getting pierced in the chest. I could feel my energy dwindling but I kept going. This is war.

"Krypto! Get Maverick out of here!" I yelled, shooting more ice.

I saw Krypto run in and grab Maverick out from under the bed. Maverick looked at me, scared out of his mind.

"I wanna stay with you!" Maverick yelled, trying to get away from Krypto.

"Krypto, you need to get him out of here! Get him somewhere safe!" I yelled, picking up a bench and chucking it at one of the henchmen.

"No!" Maverick yelled.

"There he is! Get him!" A guy yelled, charging towards the room with others following him.

"Now, Krypto!" I yelled, holding my hands up and creating an ice barracade. I looked over at Maverick. "I love you."

Krypto smashed open a window and had Maverick secured on his back. Maverick looked at me, distraught, but this was for the best. He can't be here, I can't risk losing him. I would never forgive myself. I watched as Krypto fled.

I watched the barracade get destroyed. I was out of energy, I did what needed to be done. I protected Maverick, he's long gone now. I don't care what happens next. I just wanted him safe. I could feel my heart beating out of my chest, I felt like I was going to get sick again. The whole room was spinning.

"Get away from her!" I heard Jason yell.

I felt myself get knocked in the head, I fell. I groaned and couldn't bring myself to get back up, I was too weak and drifting in and out of consciousness.
