Before the Calamity, Age 8
"Revali, look at that frog, it has yellow eyes!" Revali came over to you to have a look at it. "Eeww it is gross. Look how slimy it is and you are holding it" he said. You and Revali were friends since you met each other as hatchlings. "It is just a frog Revali and I can wash my wings afterwards. Why are you so sensitive?" "I want to be ready for my first training next week. This is why I can't touch stuff like this. I am going to be the best archer in Hyrule."
He placed one wing at his hip and with the other wing he made a pose like he wanted to show his biceps. "If you are going to be the best archer, I will be the best spear wielder and we will be the best duo Hyrule has ever seen." "Why did you choose the spear and not the bow?" You let go the frog, washed your little wings at the small pond and stood up.
"Because most of the Ritos choose the bow. I want to be different and go my own way. I know you want to be the best and I want to be the best too. This way we can be both the best in our own ways. Promise me that we are staying best friends, no matter what." "I promise, nothing will tear us apart. Can we go back now? My mom is going to scold me if I arrive late for dinner."
The two of you went back to Rito Village. Revali said goodbye and entered his hut. Your family's hut was further up so you had to climb some stairs. When you arrived home, no one was there. You walked to the mirror and your imagination showed you an adult, mighty Rito with a strong spear. You fluffed your red feathers up and pretended to be a warrior.
"What are you doing, (Y/N)?" Your mom came in and asked you confused. "I am pretending to be a strong warrior" you said. "One day my child, you are going to be the strongest warrior of Rito Village. But until then you have to take care of your lovely red feathers and not fluffing them up on purpose" she patted your head.
"Mom, why are we the only ones with red feathers?" You asked her curiously. "You know, the Ritos are descendants of the Loftwings from the era of the sky. At that time, the red ones were extremely rare and thought to be extinct. Only the hero from that era had a red one. Out of every generation of the descendants, there is only one that had red feathers. However, it has also happened that generations have been skipped."
"For example, you and I have red feathers, my parents had both brown feathers but my grandfather had red feathers like you and me. What I want to say is, we have the blood from a rare species and we should be careful with our feathers." "Ok, mommy. Can I still become a warrior?" "Of course, honey. You can be whatever you want."
A week went by and it was time to start your training. Your and Revali's training were on different days so you could watch him and he could watch you. From the beginning you were able to see, he had a talent wielding the bow. It did not take long for him to become the best archer in his group.
Your own training struggled. The children's spear was taller than you were and even a little too heavy for you. After each training, you were exhausted and your wings felt sore. Once, Revali tried to cheer you up. "You are doing great, you just need to get used to it. I believe in you." He was such a sweet little Rito.
"Thank you, I have to train harder and use my free time to do so. Can you help me?" "I don't know how to help you but I am going to do everything I can." You hugged him tightly. The very same evening your personal training began. Revali was always by your side and gave you the support you needed. He really was your best friend and you could not imagine to have a better one. Your only hope was for it to stay like that forever.
A couple of days passed and one evening, when you came home after training, your parents were nervous. "Is everything ok?" you asked them. "Sit down, we need to tell you something" your father said.
"Some days ago,a new Princess of Hyrule was born. Her name is Zelda. It was supposed to be ahappy day and it was one, until a fortuneteller predicted something. On Zelda'sseventeenth birthday is going to happen something really, really bad and allraces of Hyrule have to be prepared. All our warriors have to attend a hardertraining than before. My daughter, I am asking this only once, are you ready tobecome a warrior and risk your life for it?"
