Josie wasn't sure how she felt about therapy, she wasn't exactly comfortable talking with a stranger about her dead mother but Cami was nice. She didn't make her feel pressured to talk and they talked about a lot of different things not just about her trauma.

The brunette made her way out of the therapy office and out toward Hopes's car "How was therapy?" she said leaning over the center console and placing a kiss on her girlfriend's cheek. The girl nodded "It was fine we talked about you today" she chuckled. Hope started the car and pulled out of the parking lot "Oh did you?" she raised an eyebrow and kept her gaze on the road as she drove.

"Yeah, mostly about how you are a pain in the butt."

Hope's jaw dropped and she looked almost offended "am not." Josie smiled "Okay you aren't but yeah we mostly just talked about my relationship with you... I was telling her how much I care for you."

The auburnette smiled and reached over, placing her hand on her girlfriend's thigh "Well... thank you for being comfortable enough to share that with me."

-

"With state championships being next week I wanted to tell you all about the recruits that are going to be there," Stefan said and the girls all started talking to each other. Stefan raised his hand and signaled for them to quiet down "so If I'm hard on you this week it's because I want you to be in tip-top performance when we go out there so they can see what amazing athletes you all are."

"Remember girls this could be your opportunity to earn scholarships to your dream schools, please... I can not stress this enough, Please take this seriously this is your last big competition before most of you graduate."

Josie nodded she definitely was. She was going to get a scholarship and make her mom proud.

Stefan looked around at the girls, making sure they understood what he was saying before he picked up his whistle and blew it "Everyone give me two laps around the field and then I want you all to start doing kicking drills... Maya you will be goalie I want you to practice blocking the ball I might make that your position for states" he said and the curly-haired girl nodded before jogging out to the track.

Josie took a sip of her water before throwing it on her soccer bag and jogging after the girls and to the field. She started running on the first lane when she felt someone run up next to her "Are you supposed to be running? you broke an arm."

"Yes, but not my legs" she smiled and the two ran around the tracks together.

-

"How was practice, Jo?" Hayley said as she pours vegetables onto the girl's plate.

"Thank you," she said after the woman put food on her plate "and it was good did some drills and ran around the track... coach wanted us to practice more for states."

"Speaking of states I got Hope, Lizzie, and I VIP seats on the bus so we can come with you" she smiled. Hope rolled her eyes "which means she made out with Stefan until he said yes." Josie furrowed her eyebrows not wanting to think of her girlfriend's mother kissing her coach. Hayley scoffed and bumped her shoulder into her daughter "Don't say that."

The four of them began eating before Hayley looked back up at them "You three are officially ungrounded tomorrow? what's the first thing you are going to do?"

"Sebastian is going to take me out on his family's boat" Lizzie sighed dreamily.

Hayley nodded before looking at her daughter and the girl's girlfriend "haven't really thought about it... but dad was texting me about wanting me to go up to the Salvatore school" She rolled her eyes.

A week later before states Josie decided to leave the house a few hours early so she could visit her mom's grave.

"Hey Mom," the brunette said sitting down in front of the woman's tombstone. She rested her chin on her knee and let her eyes wander across her mom's death date that was engraved on the piece of stone.

"I've been missing you a lot lately..." she picked at the grass "Lizzie seems to be doing okay and I'm
okay, I guess? I'm going to my state championship today which I'm excited about..."

Josie got quiet again and just stared at the tombstone. It felt weird not being able to hear a response from her mom. Was it always going to feel like this? "god I could really use one of your good luck hugs right now and your encouragement" she chuckled wetly.

"But I'm going to make you proud tomorrow... I promise you that."
