The Path of Walls

A crimson sun set in the distant as Natsu carried Sue on his back through the city. He made his way to a small cottage in the woods. Inside was like a pig sty. Dishes were left unwashed, clothes were on the ground, and quest requests were covering the floor. There he set Sue down on a dirty brown armchair in the corner of the room. The Natsu tip toed out the door and shut it quietly, not to wake his sister up. He then sprinted towards the nearest market that was still open.

He hopped up to a stand see a bald man with a pointy hat at the register.

"Welcome back Natsu! How's the guild treating you?" Asked the man. 

"Good its been awesome!" Said Natsu with a big toothy grin. 

"That's good. Now what can I get you?" He asked. 

"The usual." Said Natsu, slapping five hundred jewels on the counter. 

The man handed him a bag containing a box of matches, meat, and a bottle of hot sauce. "Have a good night and come again!" Said the man as Natsu cheerily skipped away humming to himself.

As he walked home the sky was already dark with little golden stars hanging in the sky. All of a sudden the ground began to shake and strangely enough the walls around Natsu began to grow, as if reaching to touch the heavens. The walls kept growing until the road was formed into a straight line. Natsu, astonished, stared up at the houses and shops that seemed about fifty feet above his head. 

Snapping Natsu out of his trance a voice said, "Hey kid, what are you doing out here so late at night?"

Natsu turned around to see a tall, muscular man with red hair and an unshaven beard.

The man immediately started staring at Natsu's red guild mark on his right shoulder. "So you're in Fairy Tail? Damn they're accepting them younger and younger." He said with a grin, "I am too. My name is Gildarts." Said the man as he patted Natsu on the head. 

"You are in Fairy Tail?! Are you super strong or something? Why are the buildings like this?" Asked Natsu sniffing around. There was something familer about the smell but he could not put his finger on it. It was an old, comforting smell like the smell of fireside logs burning on a cold winter night.

"Oh well." Said Natsu turning back to Gildarts who seemed to be turning.... red? He shifted uncomfortably back and forth between his feet and said, "Because, I have this habit of, well......... destroying everything I touch. So they do this to protect the houses and stores." 

"Destroy!? That is SO COOL! You really are strong! So strong they need to move buildings to clear a path for you!" Said Natsu in awe. "Are you an S class wizard?"

 "Yea, I am." Said Gildarts with a smile. 

"WOW! No fair! Wait, then shouldn't you be fighting monsters on some S class quests right now?" Questioned Natsu.

"Well I came back to be an examiner at the  Fairy Tail S class wizard advancement exam this year." He answered. 

"Wow, that's so cool. One day I'm gonna be an S class wizard too!" Said Natsu with his eyes glowing in admiration. 

"I'm sure you will." Said Gildarts patting Natsu on the back. Unfortunately he underestimated the strength used to pat Natsu and Natsu went flying into the river that flowed through the town. 

"I'm sorry kid! You alright?!" 

No answer. 

"Crap! I've gone a done it again." Said Gildarts.

Out of nowhere Natsu jumped out of the river yelling, "Wow! You really are STRONG! Crap I totally forgot about Sue!"

"Sue?" Said Gildarts.

"Yea you'll meet her. She's SUPER STRONG! And don't forget, One day I'm gonna be stronger and I will beat you!" Yelled Natsu as he ran off into the distance.

"Bye kid. I'm sure you will." Gildarts said as he started walking down the clear path of walls toward the guild, Fairy Tail.
