The Abandoned Town

Natsu's POV~

When I woke up I was on a futon. I sat up to see I was in an old, deserted house. I stepped out of a hole in the wall, which, I guessed was a door. The sky was a bright vivid blue and the sun shone down on the roofs of buildings like a thousand flames.

That's weird.

 I don't hear a single voice. Wait, where am I? And what about the exam? Or Sue? Where is she? All of the questions where spinning around in my head like a giant storm.

 "I guess I'll look around." I said to myself, taking a step into the strange environment.

I had been running around the town for what seemed like forever until I realized I hadn't heard or seen a single person. I was in a completely deserted town.

Where had all its inhabitants gone? Are they hurt? Did they disappear like Igneel? AHHH my brain is starting to fry in this heat with all these questions.

I lifted my gaze to the center of the town. There stood an enormous tree, larger than two guild halls stacked on top of each other, surrounded by a patch of smooth, newly cut grass. Something almost entrancing drew me towards the tree like a moth to a flame.

That's when I saw it.

At first they were blurry. Just little dots in the tree. The could be leaves of branches. But soon my vision enhances and I saw the truth. There were bodies hanging from the branches.

The first one that caught my eye was a girl, with blood red hair; it was Erza.

The MiraJane.

Then Freed.

Elfman.

Macao.

Jet. 

Wakaba.

Droy.

Alzack.

Loke.

Bickslow. 

Bisca.

EverGreen.

Cana.

Levy. 

Even ice princess, hung from a branch completely unconscious.

Finally at the top of the tree hung a girl, with vibrant salmon hair, completely still, except for the slight breeze that swayed her hair in the wind.

Sue.

The second thing I noticed was their condition. They were all badly beaten and covered head to toe with scratches, cuts, and deep purple bruises. I stood there. Horrified. What had happened while I was asleep? Had someone attacked the island? Where was master Makarov? I felt an anger fill in me as a witnessed the scene. Who could do this? In anger I clenched my fist and threw a punch towards the ground. A small crater formed where my fist made the impact and I began sprinting towards the giant tree. Suddenly I crashed. An invisible barrier stood in my way and refused to let me pass.

"What the hell is this shit?!!!" I screamed at the top of my lungs.

Then I heard a voice, booming all around me, coming from no particular direction,

"Natsu Dragneel,"

Where was it coming from?

"Who are you?!" I shouted.

 The voice ignored me and continued, "Your friends have payed the price for their arrogance, but you have what it takes to become an S-class wizard. I will give you a choice to save your friends and cross my magic barrier. However if you choose to do this, you will never become an S-class wizard and you will be banished from the Fairy Tail guild, never to return.

As I stood there in complete shock, my attention returned to Sue on the tree. She had begun to fall. more than 70 feet in the air, I watched as her lifeless body rocketed towards the ground.

"At this rate your friend will fall. Make your choice." The voice said.

"Shut your mouth!!! Like, hell I'm gonna watch Sue fall. I choose my family! I choose Fairy Tail! She would do the same!" I shouted.

"You understand you'll never be able to see them again."

"Get the hell out of my head!" I screamed as I threw a punch to the invisible wall and watched it shatter into a million pieces like shards of glass.

"So be it..." Said the voice as it dissipated into the distance.

I sprinted as fast as my feet would carry me. Sue was about 10 feet from the ground now. I was still too far. I boosted my speed with my flames acting as propellers and dove and caught her right before she crashed, but the second I came into contact with her, everything went black.

UPDATE: HI 2020 me here, wow I added alot to this chapter, but I'm glad I did because I feel like it will be easier to understand now. Also I based this chapter off of a scene in a different anime and I don't know many people who have watched it, but if you recognized this scene and know whats show its from I'll be so impressed, you'll have my full respect.
