Stay

It was late in the evening as I made my way towards the bunker. My boyfriend had once more decided to miss dinner and keep on working in bunker 9 instead.
That's why I wanted to bring him some food so he wouldn't starve anytime soon.

So when I stepped inside of the bunker I was confused because it was absolutely quiet. Normally there was always some noise to be heard, even if it's just the sound of a hammer hitting a piece of  metal.
But I could not remember that it was ever this quiet.

"Leo?", I called out into the dark. When I didn't get a response, I started to look for a way through the maze of workbenches and machines of all kinds. As I got to the table where Leo normally worked on I saw that the chair was empty too. Now I started to worry. Where did he go? I had checked in his cabin before I went here, he wasn't there.

But before I could imagine the worst I heard ruffling from my right. I quickly turned towards the sound and saw that it came from the old couch Leo and I had put there.
As I walked closer I could see someone laying there underneath a thin blanket.

Leos hair was a mess, well, at least more than usual. His eyes were closed and he was snuggled into his pillow. I smiled to myself thinking about how cute and carefree he looked. I put the plate with his food onto his workbench, carefully trying not to make a sound, and slowly walked over to where he laid. I kneeled down next to him and ran my hand through his soft curls. I placed a soft kiss on his temple and started to stand up again to get back to my cabin before curfew.

Just as I was about to step away from the couch, a warm hand grabbed mine in a soft hold and I turned back in surprise.
Apparently Leo had woken up and he was now looking at me through tired eyes.
"Stay with me?", he asked quietly with a raspy voice. "Please", he added when I hesitated.

I sighed and quickly got out of my shoes. I knew that my siblings would cover me somehow, they always did.
I quickly got underneath the blanket and laid down in Leos arms that he already held out for me. He immediately wrapped his arms around me and I snuggled further into his warm embrace. When I turned to face him he softly kissed my cheek and whispered: "Thank you. I love you.". I hid my face in the crook of his neck and whispered back into his ear: "I love you too.".
Leo pulled me impossibly closer to his chest. He moved his hand under my shirt to my bare back and a comforting warmth spread through my body which made me smile.
Not long after I felt his breathing evening out as he fell asleep. I smiled to myself and after a few minutes I finally fell asleep as well.
