・*˚⁺‧☽ Lavandula angustifolia . ☾‧⁺˚*‧
This sweet serene flower is actually
a part of the mint family - "Lamiaceae".
Which is something I was not aware
of until doing the research that I have
done in order to create this post.
The word - "lavender", comes from the
Latin word - "lavare", which means "to
wash". I believe this was taken into
relation when the Romans, Greeks,
and Persians began using lavender
in their baths. It was believed (and still
is today) to purify the body and mind.
Though, the earliest uses of lavender
had been recorded to be in the times
of ancient Egypt. During then, it is said
that they used lavender oil as a step in
the mummification process.
From a herbalists stand point, lavender
may have many health benefits and can
be used in a variety of ways. Lavender
oil can be used by rubbing it on certain
areas of your body to remedy certain
ailments. It is said that the oil is anit-
inflammatory as well as antiseptic.
Meaning, it can reduce irritation and
may help in sanitizing. It can also ease;
anxiety, insomnia, depression, and
restlessness. Lavender tea can also
be made and consumed to relieve pain
due to headaches, nausea, gas, and
stomach issues in general. Although,
it is important to note that these are
more of speculated benefits, as there
hasn't been enough research done to
certify this as a definitive solution.
In the magickal aspect of the herb,
lavender has many uses as well.
It is great to use in regards to both
the physical and emotional aspects
of your being. It is also used to help
cleanse and protect yourself and
your space.
It is no surprise that this little flower
would be popular to be used in rituals
and spells revolving around; peace,
sleep, relaxation, healing, protection,
purification, love, and psychic abilities.
And if you are a believer in such critters,
it is said to attract elves.
Regarding love and relationships, it is
said that lavender was put into sachet
bags and then given to a newlywed
couple as a gift to attract prosperity
and peace into their lives.
You could also use lavender in a salve
or in as an oil. You would rub it on your
temples to either relieve pain from any
headaches or use it before you sleep
to encourage prophetic dreams.
As a flower representing relaxation
and peace, lavender can also be used
to assist in grounding your energy and
balancing/clearing your chakras. Again,
just take a couple drops of oil to your
chakra areas and rub it in. Visualize
your chakras clearing and opening
as you ground.
A couple other uses are; in spiritual
baths, smudging to clear, cleanse,
and protect you and your space,
and it is also popular to use as a
dressing when performing candle
magick spells/rituals.
Personally; although lavender
may not necessarily be my
favourite herb to consume in any
manner, it certainly is an herb I
do enjoy working with! Both in
an herbalistic sense as well as
a magickal!
