・*˚⁺‧☽ Rubus Ursinus ☾‧⁺˚*‧

These dark little gems are called Rubus Ursinus – better known as blackberries and they are also called "brambles". These berries are part of the rose family and in being so they can flower and also produce thorns such like rose bushes. Though, unlike roses, they do prefer to grow in dry soil.

When harvesting these berries, the fruit should
be gathered as soon as they have ripened.
The leaves: during or before flowers begin to
bloom. And the roots can be dug up in the spring and fall. It goes without saying that you can make use of more than just one part of this versatile plant. They can be used to make, teas, tinctures, and poultices. With the berries, you can eat them as they are of course.

Blackberries contain lots of vitamin C, so they're great for adding an extra little boost to your immune system. Not only that, but it may assist in reducing the free radicals in your body and help with iron absorption. They are also a good source of fiber! And I believe we can understand the basis of what fiber can do to our systems. For those of you who don't, basically it's a gut cleanser. It can help regulate your bowels, reduce cholesterol, and assist with managing blood sugar. The vitamin K in these berries can help with, blood clotting and bone health. The manganese can assist in bone development and also help with boosting your immune system.
Blackberries are also a source of folate!
Which may be a good thing for pregnant
women, as it is said to help with the growth
of cells and tissues, and also help with the
prevention of any birth defects. Which is
great to hear for any expecting parent!
I know it was an interesting tid-bit of info
for me as my wonderful boyfriend and I
have been making those attempts.

Now into my favourite part!
The magickal side! Just as in herbalism,
the different parts of the blackberry plant
can have different associations along with
uses. The roots; with water, Venus, Scorpio,
and feminine energy. The leaves; with Aries
and fire. And the berries are feminine and
carry earth energy. Generally, blackberries
can be used in spells revolving around
abundance, prosperity, and protection.
They can be used to honour deities, such
as, Brigid – the Irish goddess of spring,
fertility, and life. In Celtic lore, blackberries
are considered as a "pagan fairy fruit",
as it attracts the fae and fairies. In English
folklore, passing under an archway of a
blackberry bush is said to cure or prevent
any sickness or illnesses. And in Christianity,
it is said that the crown of thorns that was
placed upon Jesus was indeed from a
blackberry bush. And when it was done,
the berries turned from red to black.

Traditionally, blackberries are baked into
pies to celebrate and welcome in the
pagan sabbats; Lughnassadh and Lammas.
With that in mind, I might just end up making
a blackberry pie myself! Either way I do intend
to keep that in mind for future reference.
