Ah, apples... one of the world's most
well-known and popular fruit. They come
In many different varieties, which each
have their own distinct taste.
Apples are known to be linked to that
popular saying, "an apple a day keeps
the doctor away." And while that may
not be completely true, there is no doubt
that consuming apples can help to keep
you and your body healthy.
Consuming apples have been known to
possibly reduce the risk of; cancer, diabetes,
and heart disease. They also have been
known to assist in; weight loss, gut health,
and brain health.
For the magickal aspect of apples, they are
associated with the deities, Aphrodite, Athena, Apollo, and Dionysus. And in saying such,
apples do make for great offering for them.
These fruits are also associated with the sign
Taurus, the planet Venus, the element water,
feminine energy, and the stones; rose quartz,
amethyst, morganite, and aquamarine.
In Christian lore, it is said that Adam and Eve
had eaten the forbidden fruit – which was described as an apple. Now the larynx (more prominent in men) is thought to have gotten its alternate name the "Adam's Apple" due to the prominent result of the apple sticking in Adam's throat. Furthermore, in Christian mythology, Jesus has been portrayed
with holding an apple. This rendition gives the narrative of apples going from the sign of the fall of humanity to being the sign of redemption – eternal life. Which is an interesting thought and links to the pagan holiday known to most as Halloween, Samhain. In some practices, apples are added to practitioner's alters during this time
because they were seen as food for the dead.
Which also connects to Samhain being sometimes referred to "The Feast of Apples".
In terms of rituals and spells, apples are used for; love, fertility, protection, prosperity, abundance, longevity, life, death, rebirth, wisdom, underworld, attracting faeries, healing, beauty, and divination.
