SMALL THINGS

“Frankie, I still find it weird and hard to believe that...” I opened up.

Habang tumatagal, mas nagiging komportable ako lalo. Sa tuwing magkasama kami, anuman ang laman ng isip ko o kahit anong bumabagabag sa akin, nasasabi ko sa kaniya nang walang kahirap-hirap. Expressing my thoughts and feelings had kept me struggling my whole life.

Nang tumigil ako sa paghakbang sa hagdanan, napatigil rin siya. “Hard to believe that?”

“That you like me too. I mean, why me? Iʼm not that attractive and Iʼll never be the man youʼve read in those romance novels. Iʼll never be the man that youʼve dreamed of.” I shown her a smile that was full of self mockery. I hated that part of me.

It has been days but Iʼm still clinging on to the chains that holds me from building trust on myself.

“Stop thinking that way about yourself. You are definitely beyond than those of fictional characters.” she affirms. “You are the most attractive man Iʼve seen. Youʼre smart, you have the looks, you have a good soul... I like every part of you.”

Her words were heartwarming. Now my cold heart was burning.

The breeze coming outside the window blew her hair that made the ambiance magical. Her beauty was enchanting me. It was hypnotizing yet so mesmerizing.

She got my heart beating in a fast phase.

I am brave enough to admit that Iʼm falling deeper in love with her.

Nang makarating kami sa parking lot, I saw the great opportunity to ask her out. “Do you have plans for the weekend?” tanong ko.

She was about to open the carʼs door when I asked her. She stopped for a moment. “I stay at home as usual.”

That was perfect. Eveything Iʼve imagined is coming true. Now, what I need to do is make sure that everything will go according to plan. “Letʼs go to some public library and go to some bookstores if youʼd like to. Kung gusto mo, magkape rin tayo.” I said.

“Letʼs buy books too!” she hopped like a bunny as she said those words.

Mahina akong natawa at malapad na ngumiti. “Why are you smiling?” bigla siyang napatigil sa pagtalon at nawala ang ngiti sa mukha niya.

“When you said books, your smile became wider.” I uttered. “I find it really cute.”

Her ears suddenly became rosy pink and so as her cheeks.

“Iʼll fetch you tomorrow afternoon.” saad ko.

“Why afternoon?”

“Thatʼs a secret.”

She squints her eyes while still guessing. “Hmm...”

Next day came.

Sinundo ko si Frankie sa bahay nila dahil iyon ang aming napag-usapan kagabi nang pauwi kami galing sa SDA.
